Prime vs Prime: Anderson vs Wanderlei

Wandy got in there with Cro Cop, and Mark Hunt. Andy wouldn't do a damn thing to him. He'd take him down, and pound him out.

Just like Henderson and Forrest did to Anderson...oh wait...

Wand with chin, aggression and possibly roids would fuck Anderson up horribly. Now? Not so much.

I can't source it, but back in the day, you'd always hear stories about how Pele and Anderson would beat up the Chute Boxe guys in the gym.

I've never heard this, don't make things up

We just saw Andy struggle with a ring-rusted welterweight with decent boxing skill.

.

You saw a near 40 year old who came back from a horrific injury and he still outstruck Diaz in every round. why the fuck do people even mention this fight like its anywhere relevant in the dicusssion of his career considering any of the above.

Prime Wand would do what Weidman did to Anderson, only would have followed with a head stomp or soccer kick after dropping him with the punch.

That would of been such a fun fight to watch if ever came to fruition!!

It's weird how time can erode a fighter's reputation. Anderson's strength of schedule at 185 lbs is looking weaker as time goes by, and while Wand was on top at 205 lbs in PRIDE he was getting dominated by also-rans like Takase.

The Wanderlei that flatlined Sakuraba, smashed Rampage and won a newspaper decision over Cro Cop in his K-1 prime makes surprisingly short work of the Spider, IMO.

We also saw Wanderlei get KTFO'd in 30 seconds by a journeyman brawler.

Outstruck due to leg kicks? Sure. Outboxed? Not even close. Diaz would school him in a straight up boxing match and that was very fucking apparent to anyone who watches both sports religiously. But the question was "prime" and obviously Anderson was not in his prime for the Diaz bout.

imo even the Anderson that fought Diaz would KO Wandy in round 1.

Wandy stalked his opponents with a high Muay Thai guard and looping hard punches- Silva would just angle out and pierce through with his sharp accurate jabs that would meet a charging Silva @ full force.. recipe for a KO.

People once commented chuck was perfect to beat Wandy cause his straight shots would counter Wandy's powerful looping hooks.

I give it to Anderson.

I'm sure people are going to say "Andy by Chris Leben like performance" but in Wand's prime, he became more of a technical brawler. I was always amazed at how composed he was and how he was able to pick his shot at just the right time. In his early years, he was just a bar brawler who would have gotten destroyed by prime anderson. However, later into wand's prime, he became a smarter fighter (a technical and composed brawler).

I will give the slight advantage to Anderson, but in no way in hell would I count Wand out. He was a monster back in his prime.

Well you also have a 2011 join date so I wouldn't expect you to know much. Or did you lurk the forums but really started watching back in 1993 with early Pancrase?

So you don't respond with anything to back up your claim just a generic join date insult

Hyper-aggressive Wanderlei plays right into prime Anderson's hands.
