Prime Frank Mir vs Stipe Miocic

Mirs takedowns are borderline atrocious. So he has absolutely zero chance of taking down Stipe. He would get KTFO like in almost half of his fights.

If Frank Mir didn't get in that motorcycle accident he could have done some amazing things.

His career highlight is dominating a very horrible looking Big Nog. Ironically, and even worse and over the hill Big Nog would have TKO or KO'd Mir had he not made the weird decision to go for a submission after knocking Mir down. He had that KO or TKO right in the bag there all he had to do was keep throwing punches at the downed and dazed Mir.

Iiirc, herb dean had something to do with that baffling decision.
Dude's been a suspect ref since long before people started complaining.

Anyone who asks this type of question has knows little about the UFC. Stipe would pound Mir out in less than 2 rounds. Mir was never even close to Stipe.

This is not the nicest thing to say about a fighter I genuinely liked.....But I don't know there that there was ever a PRIME Mir....

I mean, who can tell what kind of a champion he would've been without that bike crash? But before it he hadn't really faced the competition and after... well, He was A LOT different ...

If had had continued to develop as an MMA artist at the rate he was with his already (In Rogan voice) , top of the food chain BJJ ..... He'd still probably lose to Stipe

What year/years is Mir's prime? He still likely loses either way and I'm a big Mir fan. Stipe is just a really bad match up for Mir he's better everywhere other than bjj.

I liked Frank Mir but even in his resurgence prime (2008-2012) he was still a very beatable guy.

This.

Amazing to say, but he was at his best before the motorcycle accident.

Still wish he eventually had that Tim Sylvia rematch.

A drunk Mir took down and handled the juiced GOAT who was prolly coked up as well

Gotta go with Mir
So were they just messin around or were they really trying to fuck each other up? It's hard to tell since it looks like the video is sped up

They're slapping each other and playing around.

At least. And his striking and fight iq is light years ahead of jones.
Light years ahead of the GOAT? Come on bruh

He's a sloppy as fuck, where the fuck is he going after this strike?

Stylistically, Mir would have a very tough time with Stipe, even taking overall ability out of the equation.

Frank had the amazing ability of pulling wins out of his ass.

Thats what made him so dangerous.

He could lose 3 fights in a row and look like shit then come in and look amazing. Like against Kongo, Mir, and Nog.

Even against the first Lesnar fight he was losing till that submission.

Everyone loves to shit on Mir these days, I'd have to pick Stipe. Much better boxer and wrestler, although Franks submission ability in his prime was devastating. He could absolutely catch Stipe in something.

Frank beats Mir 10 out of 10 times

People have no idea how badly that motorcycle accident messed Mir up. At first they were saying he may never walk again without a crutch or at least a noticeable limp. Even when he came back, he did it way too soon and looked like garbage vs Pe De Pano, Christison, and Vera. He never got back his explosion or flexibility either. Look at how fluid he was on the mat prior to the accident, then after. There's no comparison.

But he figured out how to adapt to his new limitations and ended up having a big resurgence and a hell of a career. There is no telling how good he could have been if not for that accident. That said, he'd have needed some sort of wake up call because he admittedly didn't take things seriously way back then and just assumed he'd sub everyone based on talent. Didn't train hard, etc.

To answer the question, as has been said Frank never really had a "prime". Maybe the best version of him was when he KO'd Nog the first time? Nog had staph, but Mir really lit him up. The fight didn't take long so it's hard to know how "peak" that Mir was. Stipe is a bad stylistic matchup though. Faster hands (though I think Mir hits harder), better footwork, good TDD. I'd give the best version of Mir a decent chance for sure, but gotta favor Stipe. And Mir is literally my favorite fighter ever.
