Prime Bas Rutten vs Prime Alistair Overeem

rutten-vs-overeem-o.gif

That little technique is the same one Bas taught in some of his self defense videos I used to have. Overeem is NOT the one taking them down, but Bas is stepping back, creating a little space, and grabbing reems leg and taking them down. That is exactly what he used to teach to get out of a full nelson. Pretty cool seeing him actually do it.

It stopped evolving a long time ago.

It just adopted to explore the dumb unified rules and scoring system and allowed weight cutting.

Wow. Underrated post ^

Prime Overeem is a huge HW while prime Bas is a LHW. I don't see why these two should be matched up in a hypothetical fight. Ubereem ragdolled 262 pound Brett Rogers, imagine what he'd do to a 220 pound Bas. Overeem wins by size.

Lol Brett Rogers is NOT Bas Rutten. It might sound dumb, but I imagine Reem would have a little bit of fear facing Bas. Not even sure why I say that, I can't put my finger on a reason. I guess just seeing Bas and Reem interact with each other before, you can tell Bas would "big brother" Reem.

In a kickboxing match I think Bas takes it, in mma Overeem and it wouldn't be close

Not sure why you say that. Bas was pretty damn good on the ground. I know Reem won ADCC but Bas was no joke on the floor. Plus in mma Bas could wrap Reem up and tire him out faster than in a kickboxing bout.

That being said, you may be right though. Who knows?

I think with Pride rounds Bas would have a better chance, I'm not sure how great Bas's grappling was I still remember the beatings Ken gave him but that was Pancrase so who knows

overeem aint hard as coffin nails.you hit him with one good shot and watch him run or fall down

lol @ the guy saying overeem is much bigger than bob sapp

2 badass Dutch kickboxers (which means they are hard as coffin nails).

Both are very good submission guys as well.

Who takes it and how?

Bas would light AO up!
It's not even close!

Bas should be on GOAT discussion, but if he can beat a "never was".

overeem could murder bas ...

Youre out of your mind if you take Bas here lol.

To be fair, losing to Ken is what made Bas determined to learn submissions. And he got really good at it. But Ken beat Bas when Bas had zero ground skills. But Bas made the best of it and plugged up the hole in his game.

Bas has admitted that he would be a LHW in today's scene. Very good striking, but I think he'd have a tough time with Overeem with the height and length he'd be giving up. That's not taking anything away from Bas, it's just a much more evolved combat sport at this point in time.

Reem is a lot bigger and stronger, and he has good offensive grappling as well. I could seem him doing to Bas what he did to Mir.

Overeem really evolve, but he is always a couple punches away from losing.

And yes Bas was not in his prime there, but even in his prime he did the same mistakes that cost him that fight.

Anyway i'm more interested in Bas vs Vovchanchyn, both great but extremely overrated.

Underrated IMO.

And BTW. MMA schools weren't behind every sh*thole back in their day.

totally see bas beating reem at 205,which is more realistic.

Igor wasnt overrated, that guy was a dangerous killer. He was weak off his back but so what? how many others were in his time? By the time he started losing he had allready had 100 fights,if we count his kickboxing career. He was never the best fighter but he was always dangerous, and a cut above alot of the fighters in the early days.
