Prime Bas Rutten vs Prime Alistair Overeem

Overeem via decision or GnP, Bas didn't take the takedown defence, common problem alot of the big name Pancrase fighters would/did have fighting the best in the 00's.

When was this fight?

If I remember correctly Lobman fought Peter Aerts next, so around 1991.

Bas lost his final two Kickboxing matches and then went to Pancrase.

Bas was never near Alistair level.

Overeem fought and won against Badr Hari, old Peter Aerts, Tyrone Spong and Saki in K1, Bas only fought an old Frank Lobman and that fight clearly shows why his style only works for Pancrase rules.

If you believe Bas, you shouldn't read too much into that fight.

I used to be a Thai Boxer. I won 14 fights by knockout, 13 in the first round and one in the second. Then I fought a guy that I should've never fought, because I didn't know him.

It was New Year's Eve, I was working as a bouncer, and I was kind of drunk when the promoters asked me to fight this guy in February. This guy was just released from prison! His name was Frank Lobman, and he had a record of 59 wins and 52 knockouts, a real bad ass. But I hadn't trained for two years because I was bouncing and partying a lot.

So the promoters called again in the beginning of February and said the fight was February twelfth. And they said, "Okay Bas, so are you going to be ready? Everything is in shape." They'd made posters and everything. "What are you talking about? What about Frank Lobman? When did I tell you I was going to fight him?" I said. I hadn't remembered agreeing to the fight! Oh crap!

Bas was a talented striker, but with the size difference and Alistair's wrestling advantage it would probably be a short night for him.

soz bas i love you but reem is taking this one!

Overeem's been KOed by sooo many non K-1 fighters that your example doesn't say too much. Those big gloves that Overeem used a lot in K-1, wouldn't help him vs Bas.

1991 Bas wasn't prime Bas.

1995-1999 was prime Bas.

Anyway. I'd loove to see the fight.

Prime Bas was 200lbs. Today he'd be a MW! Prime Overeem (Ubereem) was 250lbs.

And Lobman was a monster striker.

Frank was undefeated until his first fight with Peter Aerts.

Yeah I just looked it up and edited my post. You're right. And yeah it's not as bad as steroids, but still it's illegal and IS an advantage in a fight.

That was after a 7 year break and Bas was in his 40s with shot knees and neck, Prime Bas wouldn't need the painkillers because presumably his knees and neck would still be good.

Prime Overeem is a huge HW while prime Bas is a LHW. I don't see why these two should be matched up in a hypothetical fight. Ubereem ragdolled 262 pound Brett Rogers, imagine what he'd do to a 220 pound Bas. Overeem wins by size.

Overeem takes it through sheer size and power. Bas definitely had the superior chin/conditioning though.

Overeem really evolve, but he is always a couple punches away from losing.

And yes Bas was not in his prime there, but even in his prime he did the same mistakes that cost him that fight.

Anyway i'm more interested in Bas vs Vovchanchyn, both great but extremely overrated.

I think a lot of people overrate bas based on the fact he's a really likeable guy.
All apart from 3 of his fights were pancrase fights (no punches to the face) which isn't really mma as we know it
Of the other 3, he beat tk, randleman (in one of the most controversial decisions of all time) and rueben vilarreal in his comeback.
It doesn't really give me confidence he would have a chance against a fighter like overeem

It stopped evolving a long time ago.

This is true, but Ubereem is far too much for prime Rutten, not only better, but much better.
Not only via strenght and size, but also a better more skilled fighter.

Prime Overeem via KO, but it would end up being a NC after the drug tests came back.
