I'm selling some wares at my local small town PRIDE event at the end of the month and people are already planning a protest even though it's in a general not kid park, and not parading the streets.

I'm not LGBTQ myself but a lot of what I'm selling is. Should I worry? Husband's going to be with me so physically I'm okay, my main worry is my mouth if someone says something hateful.

What city are you in? I would think that in a state like California pride would be business as usual but probably toned down some other places.

I know what you mean about being afraid you would say something. I flipped off one of those Trump rallies downtown once and ever since I've picked up some bad vibes from some Trump loving neighbors. I'm guess they were at that rally waving a flag and shit.

I'm pretty sure the largest one is in São Paulo and it has been for a long time. Toronto may be the largest on north america.
São Paulo one is huge because:
1- huge metropolitan area population (23M)
2- it's like a carnival out of season and brazilians always want an excuse to drink and dance outside, so a lot of no lgbt people shows up too

I live in BC...a very PRIDE friendly place. Well, the Greater Vancouver and some surrounding areas anyway. Rainbow stickers and walkways everywhere you go nowadays. Trans book readings and Unisex washrooms and facilities all over the place.

Needless to say, I will be moving to a much more conservative area on the map with the next year or so.

Budapest police deny LGBTQ+ march request, citing Hungary’s legislative Pride ban​

BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — Police issued an order on Tuesday denying a request to hold an LGBTQ+ event later in central Budapest, a consequence of recent steps by the right-wing populist government aimed at banning the popular Budapest Pride march.

The police’s decision to prohibit the planned event later this month came after Hungary’s parliament passed legislation in March, and a constitutional amendment the following month, that allowed the government to ban public events by LGBTQ+ communities — moves that legal scholars and critics have called another step toward authoritarianism by the autocratic government.

In its justification for prohibiting the Budapest event, which organizers requested to take place on June 28, the city’s police argued that “it cannot be ruled out, or is even inevitable, that a person under the age of 18 will be able to engage in legally prohibited conduct” if attending the proposed march.

The police also contended that the march could result in “passive victims,” who, “because of the assembly’s march-like nature, did not wish to attend the assembly but, because of its public nature, nevertheless become a bystander.”

In a statement, the organizers called the police decision “a textbook example of tyranny.”

The ban on LGBTQ+ events — which the government says ensures children’s rights to moral, physical and spiritual development — allows for fines on people organizing or taking part in Pride events, and the use of facial recognition software to identify them.

Hungary’s contentious “child protection” legislation prohibits the “depiction or promotion” of homosexuality to minors aged under 18.

Hungarian officials have given contradictory statements as to whether or not the new policies amount to a full ban on Budapest Pride. In a speech to supporters in February, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán advised organizers “not to bother organizing this year’s parade,” calling it “wasted money and time.”

The Budapest Police attached photographs and videos to its statement depicting scenes from previous Budapest Pride events — ostensibly evidence to corroborate its view that the march was likely to violate the new laws banning public displays of homosexuality.

France, Germany and Spain were among at least 20 European Union nations who last month called on Hungary to revise its legislation banning LGBTQ+ events, expressing concern that it runs contrary to the fundamental values of human dignity, freedom, equality and respect for human rights enshrined in EU treaties.


Organizers of Budapest Pride, which draws tens of thousands annually and is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, have vowed that the event will go on as planned despite the threat of legal sanctions.

Hegseth orders US navy to strip Harvey Milk name from ship amid Pride month​

The US defense secretary, Pete Hegseth, has ordered the US navy to strip the name of prominent gay rights activist and navy veteran Harvey Milk from a ship during the middle of June – a month meant to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community – according to multiple outlets.

The order to rename the USNS Harvey Milk, a fleet replenishment oiler, was in a memorandum from the office of the secretary of the navy, which was reported on and viewed by Military.com and CBS. Those reports note that the navy secretary, John Phelan, was instructed to strip the ship of its name by Hegseth.

The timing of the announcement, which comes during Pride month, was reportedly intentional.

The renaming is being done to ensure “alignment with president and SECDEF objectives and SECNAV priorities of reestablishing the warrior culture”, referring to Donald Trump, Hegseth and Phelan, according to the memorandum.

The decision to rename the ship will be publicized on 13 June, according to Military.com

The Guardian has contacted the defense department for comment.

The vessel was initially named after Milk in 2016 during the Barack Obama administration. Milk was a prominent gay rights activist who served in the US navy during the Korean war. He later went on to run for office in California where he won a seat on the San Francisco board of supervisors. As one of the US’s first openly gay politicians, Milk became a forefront figure of the gay rights movement across the country before his assassination in 1978 by a former city supervisor.

In addition to renaming the USNS Harvey Milk, the defense department plans to rename other vessels that have been given names of various icons throughout American history.

Documents reviewed by CBS showed that vessels on the US navy’s “recommended list” include USNS Thurgood Marshall, USNS Ruth Bader Ginsburg, USNS Harriet Tubman, USNS Dolores Huerta, USNS Lucy Stone, USNS Cesar Chavez and USNS Medgar Evers.

In response to reports of the defense department renaming its vessels, the California representative and former House speaker Nancy Pelosi said: “In San Francisco, we take great pride that our Harvey’s name adorns a mighty ship among a new class of navy vessels – named for the conscience of the Congress, John Lewis – which honor titans in the fight for freedom. The names of those who fought for civil rights and human rights bring luster to these ships – as their leadership brought luster to America.”

She went on to say: “The reported decision by the Trump administration to change the names of the USNS Harvey Milk and other ships in the John Lewis-class is a shameful, vindictive erasure of those who fought to break down barriers for all to chase the American dream. Our military is the most powerful in the world – but this spiteful move does not strengthen our national security or the ‘warrior’ ethos. Instead, it is a surrender of a fundamental American value: to honor the legacy of those who worked to build a better country.”
