Yea, but you're in a country in which people care about football.

Even people that play soccer growing up and in High school don't usually follow it here.

true

how is it for the world cup over there?

Pretty big, people actually follow and watch the World Cup.

One of the main issues is that the MLS sucks donkey dick, and that big time La Liga and Premiere league games come on so early here when everyone is at work.

Used to be an Irish Pub near my house, I remember that was the first time I really got introduced to how big soccer was overseas.

A lot of the guys from Ireland/England/Wales all went there, it was a smaller pub but it had great food. My buddy from Wales worked there, and he would sneak us pints (this is like 8th grade), he ended up passing away in a car wreck a few years back, cool guy.

Also the first time I was introduced to the fact that cunt is apparently ok to say. Went there one day for some games on a Saturday and I knew nothing about football, all the guys already drunk yelling "F'kn cunt" at the TV and it's not even lunch time yet, lmao.

Sorry to hear about your friend.

I only know one buddy, and he's the girls soccer coach at my old HS, that could hang in this thread when it comes to football knowledge.

People from the states that know a lot about football is rare, which is why I asked the question to begin with, most people just say "Soccer is gay and boring".
Watching English footy in States has evolved a lot over the last 25 yrs in US.

Back in the day it was only available on closed circuit TV that pubs had access to. So we had to get up at the crack of dawn & drive 25 miles to an expat pub to watch games. It created an awesome expat community.

I've lost count of the amount of American soccer noobs that happened across the place & tried too hard to fit in. I liked most of them but their banter was a bit sub-par so the regulars often treated them like 2nd class citizens, unfortuneately. Used to get their GF's stolen off them too. Was pretty brutal. I got on better with the American lads who actually played soccer at a decent level(kadafi types). They weren't boozehounds though, so only passed through occasionally.

I could never actively go out & search for friends like that. Then or now. Life of an expat, i'm afraid.

Then cable TV started showing Prem games & that gave us the excuse we needed to watch from home instead of getting steaming drunk by lunchtime every weekend.

seeing fat chicks on instagram trying to think they're models just coz they have fat tits

lmao

Do not doubt at all they got their gf's stolen, my buddy from Wales was a pretty ugly dude but he was fit and got girls here just off of his accent alone lmao

I'm only 26, so I guess I don't really know what it was like 25 years ago lol If I don't know much about the sport, so if I'm around people that know what they're talking about I usually just shut my mouth.

But I just started paying attention about a year and a half ago, because of this thread, and I already know more than all of my friends lol their knowledge is all from FIFA.

That's annoying, happens in the NBA thread as well when the Finals comes along.

You have a bunch of people that watch the sport once a year and all the sudden they come in the thread talking like they're experts.

Shit actually rustles me

Patriots are the greatest team of all time.

I know you're joking, but you could actually make that argument now, they have the second most SB wins just behind the Steelers and have been there 9 times which is more than anyone else.

lol, I got super drunk, passed out at halftime, and my buddy ran in my room and started screaming at me to wake the fuck up.

I'm glad he did, I would have been pissed if I missed that.
