Premier League 2024/25 Thread - v3: Happy New Year Edition

You can actually drink at 14 in bars in Germany. I think you're supposed to have an adult with you though. When I was 14 in Austria you could do that at 14 as well, and either there was no requirement for an adult, or it wasn't enforced. I found it took a lot of the fun out of drinking actually. Pot is lawful in Germany now as well.

Tobacco advertising was (largely) banned in the UK in 2003, and the smoking age was raised to 18 in 2007/2008. Silk Cut used to have brilliant ads.

Predictions

Monaco 2 - 1 Aston Villa
Liverpool 3 - 0 Lille OSC

As far as I know the minimum age to drink is 16 years (nowadays?) in Restaurants or Pubs where food is also served. Proper Bars, Lounges, Clubs a lot seem to have a policy now that it's no entry under 18 years old. At least in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. Noticed that some time ago while it was definitely not always the case in my teenage years. I guess/think  Not even sure now 😅 @Deffid ???

Rotherhithe is one of the nicest areas of London. Although I expect it's gone downhill since I was there. River, reservoirs, docks, boats, Range Rovers, lots of parks, leafy and peaceful. 👍 I suppose you have a house there with all your oil and gas money.

Some interesting creatures I have seen in the (fairly) recent past:

Adder/Kreuzotter/Hoggorm
Bat/Fledermaus/Flaggermus
Badger/Dachs/Grevling
Deer/Hirsch/Hjort
Dolphin/Delfin/Delfin
Fox/Fuchs/Rev (I wonder what the etymology is for the Norwegian, it's the only outlier here. Couldn't immediately find.)
Hare/Hase/Hare
Owl/Eule/Ugle
Seal/Seehund/Sel
Whale/Wal/Hval

Rotherhithe didn't seem like a nice area. Actually it was a shithole. This was in 2002 though, and we stayed at a hostel. Was a class trip and me and mah boys would get drunk at the bar every day for a week. Good times

At 14 – Minors are allowed to consume and possess undistilled (fermented) alcoholic beverages, such as beer and wine in public places, bars or restaurants, as long as they are in the company and have the permission of a Custodial Person. (§ 9 JuSchG (2) and § 1 JuSchG (1) 2). This regulation is colloquially known as "begleitetes Trinken" ("accompanied drinking") and is considered increasingly controversial in recent years, with some politicians calling for its abolition.

At 16 – Minors are allowed to consume and possess undistilled (fermented) alcoholic beverages, such as beer and wine in public places, bars or restaurants without their parents or a Custodian. (§ 9 JuSchG (1) 2).

At 18 – Having become adults, people are allowed access to distilled spirits, beverages containing distilled spirits, and food products containing non-negligible amounts of distilled spirits. (§ 9 JuSchG (1) 1).

Those limits do not apply to married adolescents. (§ 1 JuSchG (5)).

This page is unlikely to be obsolete, as here's a recent reference to begleitetes Trinken:

Not commonly known:

Someone aged 16 or 17 and accompanied by an adult, can drink (but not buy) beer, wine or cider with a meal at a licensed premises (except in Northern Ireland).

If you thought Rotherhithe in 2002 was a shithole, I wouldn't recommend visiting this country again. 👍

You might want to stay away from Oslo as well tbh.

House prices in Rotherhithe have an overall average of £533,967 over the last year.

Above average houses seem to be going for say NOK 4,000,000 in Haugesund, which is £287,616.76.

You didn't stay at this hostel did you?

No problem with this so long as United aren’t dumb enough to offload players and not replace them.

@Deffid Rashford landed in Dortmund already?

@Dr J @FredTheRed Weak keeper and missing left side - other than that you lot would already have some "serviceable" players for Amorim's style/system but the problem is without at least a little break there is literally no time to work on that from the scratch. That's also the problem with changing the coach during the season and if it's meant to be long-term and not just for a few months as a rescue mission or anything.

Yoro, De Ligt, Martinez have the right skillset for a back 3 - Mazraoui right wingback - Ugarte, Mainoo as 6/8 - Diallo inside forward and Hojlund target player. No good position for Bruno but that be for Amorim's ideas to start with. So a left wingback would probably the first thing you should look for.
