Now that i can control better once i twirl out, omaplatas are better for me, i'm just keeping them tighter and not even banking on the shoulder lock, i'll grap the opposite lapel if i have to.Smart. Avoiding omaplata and tricky shit like that is wise. Fundamental positions are important. I used to fuck up people that always watched YouTube to do tricky tornado guard and stuff because once I cracked thr one difficult puzzle, I always had the fundamentals.
And half guard is as neutral a position as any, IMO. So many good sweeps once you nail down arm drags and know how to create a bit of space.
I feel you dude, i'm so glad my primary coach is nothing like my instincts and i'm just staying simple. I've worked my passing soooo fucking much and finally feel alright.
You're right about fundamentals. Like when guys play a weird crazy x, and you just push that knee down, you can feel them go "Fuck"
