Prediction thread Charles vs Ilia

Yea that's specifically why I mention the headkick, I think Ilia is the perfect height for them, provably so and hope Charles' camp thinks the same

Charles kicks a lot. I don't think Ilia has ever faced a guy remotely like charles to be honest. Charles on the other hand has faced pretty much every style imaginable.

This will be a great fight. whoever accepts to be on the back foot will be the guy losing since neither of these guys like fighting backwards.

How do we see this fight going?

I’m a Charles fan but I think Charles is getting knocked out, I’ve seen enough footage of Ilia being decent on the ground, and with how many times Charles has been knockdown or caught on the feet leading to a submission or KO I just feel like Ilia’s gonna defend the takedowns and land the kill shot on the feet, I’d love to say Charles is too heavy and Charles will easily lay on him and get the sub but I just don’t see it

Plus I’ve seen a lot of people say there’s no guarantee that Ilia’s power is gonna translate to 155 I think it will we’ve seen enough fighters do well moving up too know that Ilia’s likely gonna keep his power
I just cannot bet against Topuria at this point.
He KOd Volka and KOd Max ......2 people who historically do NOT get KOd.

So.....Topuria wins this fight by stoppage IMHO. I think Oliveira only chance is actually submission anf I just don't think Topuria will allow himself to get into a position where that event is a possibility.

Topuria vs Mackhachev ( if it ever happened......) would be very interesting. If have to go with Makhachev in that case.

Taller fighters got advantage when it comes to knees and high kicks

Oliveira's pretty old and his chin is pretty crap, and he doesn't really have great wrestling to get it to the ground. He could land something big first, or maybe Topuria slips and Charles pounces to grab his neck, but Charles is the best matchup for him and Ilia wins 7 or 8 out of 10 times.

I think Charles is losing this one in the 1st round, probably a KO or Ilia will submit him in the same way Islam did, hurting him standing and then going for the sub.

Charles better take this to the ground otherwise Ilia is gonna sleep him. Charles doesn't have that champion edge anymore and Ilia is super confident

Can't count Charles out, but Ilia has to be the pick here. I can't see Ilia not catching Charles with something big early in the fight. The question is what follows after Ilia hurts him.

Charles by sub off the knockdown or TKO. Charles will measure distance with teeps (his kick game is underrated) he will fight long and force clinch in boxing distance where Charles has a big advantage (imo). He will hurt ilia drop him and snatch his neck or pound him out.

I BELIEVE!!!!!!

Charles wins by securing a nasty submission

The truth!!

I think there’s a good chance of Topuria knocking Oliveira out/down and finishing him with strikes. Oliveira has gotten a lot better as a striker in the last few years and he does have a lot of power, so he can catch Topuria as well!

I hope Charles puts on his wrestling shoes and uses his size, strength and grappling skill to put it on Topuria. That’s what I hope to see even more than just a striking fight. Mix it up, gents! It’s mixed martial arts.

Oliveria wins decision 48-47

Oliveria can neutralize this like he did to Poirier.

Neutralize like in getting knocked down 3 times and hurt 3 more times while taking 60 punches in a round?

Ok, good luck with that. Oliveira won via glove grab.

Cope and seethe.
Unlike in boxing, where knockdowns are officially defined and logged; are integral, explicit, mandatory scoring factors; and result in a pause in the action, in MMA a knockdown is whatever someone watching says it is and a fighter can, at least theoretically, be knocked down any number of times more than his opponent and still go to the bell or even win the round.

In round 1 of Poirier/Oliveira there were two times when Poirier landed a strike causing Oliveira's hand or knee to hit the ground but Oliveira popped right back up without any real lapse in defense, and there was one time where Oliveira went to the ground on his back following a strike and didn't get up until after some brief follow-up on the ground by Poirier and Poirier backing off.

It doesn't matter whether you call that three knockdowns, one knockdown, or a handful of snausages; they were three hard shots in a round chock-full of hard shots where Poirier landed slightly better shots overall in a close but clear 10-9 round.
