Movies PREDATOR: BADLANDS (Full Trailer, post #134)

Whats any of that got to do with this Predator design being goofy as hell? They could have achieved everything you wrote, with a cool character design, rather than something that makes you laugh. I can't believe the producers looked at that design and thought, that's the one!
Honestly,. I dont even see the problem. I think they shrunk the head crest down for a reason. In Predator one McTiernan focused on more frontal close ups that cut head crest down a little bit in the action scenes. In Predator 2 the huge skull is more apparent especially in the fight at the end, and you know what? It looks kind of ridiculous when you see the entire head at once swinging around in motion.

Its almost like watching the Elephant Man fight somebody.

Compare that to the original, and you can see the McTiernan deliberately framed his shots to compensate for this.

Pretty much every shot of the Predator face once the helmet comes off is below the chin, or close up that minimizes seeing the entire skull in motion or keeps the head crest mostly out of frame, and virtually no side profile shots of a helmet-less Predator are in the movie at all.

So, what are they gonna do with this Predator that I imagine is going to be in much more complicated action sequences, emote like a main character and be visible from any angle? They have to get rid of the giant head crest because its logistically hard to deal with, and also because in certain shots it just looks dumb. When the helmet is on, any shot looks awesome. But once the helmet is off, theres lots of views and angles that look silly.

Looks really good.
Never been a fan of that Fanning, but it might have just been the movies she was in.

Show me an image where it looks as silly as this. A predator is supposed to look cool and badass, not goofy. The eye area is all wrong, too close and beady. These clowns are just incompetent these days.

I mean, theres no accounting for taste. I showed the whole vid of the end of Predator 2 and I think the entire head crest looks stupid when the Predator is actually moving around and swinging its head back and forth and the camera view is from above instead of below or at a distance. Its just too massive to look anything but kind of silly. I dont see the big issue with the pic you posted. I see its different. But had the original Predator unmasked and shown that face I really doubt the audience would have suddenly gone ablaze with "OMFG thats stupid".

^ Full trailer is up and it looks fantastic.

No account for bad taste you mean:)

The criticisms you are giving for the original Predator design are something I have literally never heard before since 1987. The unanimous opinion has always been how damn cool the design is.

I love teh concept of teh young predator on his first hunt in teh worse possible planet he could've chosen. ~Kid'z trying to make a name for himself~

At first I waz thrilled that they have a cyborg in teh mix, but got a little swayed when predator took a shine to it & carried teh top half around. I'll give it a chance though. Perhaps teh cyborg waz useful... it is a computer that haz knowledge of teh planet, & so that makes sense. It seemz to be able to understand Predator language.

Teh human size skull takes me out of it a bit, but I can over-look that if they explain it somehow. He'z likely really young. Perhaps Cross-bread with humanz? (he does sound a bit like Arnold when he talks 🤣)

Is there any canon that very young predators have smaller skullz? Perhaps he'z much younger than teh other predatorz we've seen.

Grok AI didn't find any canon about smaller skull size in younger predators, but notes significant physical development in older predators: --> The predator in "Predator Badlands," named Dek, is described as a younger, less experienced member of the species, often referred to as an "underdog Yautja 'runt.'" While specific skull size isn't mentioned, the concept of "runts" or less imposing young Predators in comics supports the notion of smaller physical features during early stages.

I'd add that the significantly advanced features of teh big boss predator on killer of killerz shows that their features sway very widely as they age. Actually, I just looked at teh predator that they blew his head off (to motivate teh 3 earth warriorz) & it had a rather small head.

I remember everyone was bitching about Fanning being casted in this because they thought this skinny little chick was going to fight the predator in hand to hand combat. Her being an android makes sense. I liked her in other movies and I think she's gorgeous. The story idea is fine but I don't like the design and execution.

The predator design is symbolic of masculinity. In the 80s it was about how super buff special forces guys (the epitome of masculinity) were child's play for a Predator which was designed to be look big, menacing, and intimidating as possible. Over the years the predator design has gotten smaller and slimmer along with the human characters. Now we have a genderless chick in a buddy cop movie with a vegan Gen Z yautja lol. Since the predator doesn't really speak english, it looks like fanning's role is mostly to provide exposition, which seems unnecessary because this movie's plot seems pretty simple unless there's a clever twist.

To be fair, she wouldn’t be a proper Weyland-Yutani synthetic if she didn’t get in your nerves at least a bit, right?
At least she isn't blowing and fingering another android's flute like Fassbender.

The design is awesome as fuck. But looking awesome while being stationary and moving/running/jumping around are two different things. There wasn't any other design to to compare it too, Predator was awesome and back then people didn't complain on the internet about everything. Also, theu didn't do the things that presumably the Predator will do in this movie. The most comparable thing might be the Alien Vs Predator fight in the first AvP movie, but the helmet never came off.

But again, just look at the difference between how McTiernan shot the Predator without a helmet vs how it was done in Predator 2. You can see the deliberate framing and why its so superior in the first movie vs the second.

That looks fucking awesome.
The thing is this is literally the shit we wanted to see 40 years ago. Expanding the Predator world and seeing a Predator main character do a bunch of Predatoring.

People get okder and kind of lose sight of how they can sort of grow out of rhe things that appealed to them while at the same time really enjoying the things that did appeal to them when they were younger. Its why you have grown men complaining about the origin of Ninja Turtles in a 2016 TMNT movie. The bigger question is does it appeal to the kids who are now the age you were when the TMNT series came out. Your childhood doesnt grow with you.

I LOVED Predator 2 as a kid. Because it was MORE Predator. With MORE weapons. But objectively, the movie is pretty bad. I still love it because I loved it as a kid.

So now with Predator, how much would I love this movie if it had come out when I were 14 years old? Probably as much as my kids are gonna love it because i showed them Predator and they love everything about it. Even Predator 2 and Prey. Its their jam.

Predator was never something you take very seriously. It has a goddamn wrestler carrying a fucking mini gun through the jungle. But nobody complains about the logistics of carrying 500 pounds of ammunition that would last half a minute through a goddamn jungle. Because its was never THAT serious. Just have some fun with it. Its supposed to be cool and fun. I bet this movie will be kinda cool and fun if you aren't trying so hard to concentrate on how it isn't like the movie you saw as a kid.

Trailer looked good. I didn't expect the android to be ripped in half but she seems to be there for comedy relief.

I don't particularly like the Kai Cenat character design but I appreciate a film that shows the POV from a predator. I think this is the first movie where the pred is the main character. I didn't watch the autism pred movie.

I agree with the taste part, but I disagree and think this does look "stupid". I prefer the large crest and head. The original was badass, this looks like a fetal alcohol syndrome Predator.
