Honestly,. I dont even see the problem. I think they shrunk the head crest down for a reason. In Predator one McTiernan focused on more frontal close ups that cut head crest down a little bit in the action scenes. In Predator 2 the huge skull is more apparent especially in the fight at the end, and you know what? It looks kind of ridiculous when you see the entire head at once swinging around in motion.Whats any of that got to do with this Predator design being goofy as hell? They could have achieved everything you wrote, with a cool character design, rather than something that makes you laugh. I can't believe the producers looked at that design and thought, that's the one!
Its almost like watching the Elephant Man fight somebody.
Compare that to the original, and you can see the McTiernan deliberately framed his shots to compensate for this.
Pretty much every shot of the Predator face once the helmet comes off is below the chin, or close up that minimizes seeing the entire skull in motion or keeps the head crest mostly out of frame, and virtually no side profile shots of a helmet-less Predator are in the movie at all.
So, what are they gonna do with this Predator that I imagine is going to be in much more complicated action sequences, emote like a main character and be visible from any angle? They have to get rid of the giant head crest because its logistically hard to deal with, and also because in certain shots it just looks dumb. When the helmet is on, any shot looks awesome. But once the helmet is off, theres lots of views and angles that look silly.
