I see it all the time. Parents need to learn to STFU. Besides some encouragement on the field I keep my mouth shut and let the coach do the coaching.Suburban soccer parents who don't know shit about the game but yell with utmost confidence are the best.
Real hard foul in midfield: "That's a red card and a penalty! That's a penalty!!!"
Celebrating goalie saves or defensive plays as much or even louder than goals
Constantly urging players to boot up the ball so the forwards can fight for it
Also kickball style of playing is very real and I'm still seeing in even though my son's team moved up to the highest league bracket this season. At the same time they are just U10 and it takes a lot of skill (great 1-2 touch passing, great off the ball movement and strong 1v1 skills) in order to do it effectively. If the kids don't have the skills it's just not possible to play that way. My son's team play 7v7 and has 2 kids that play defense very well. When all the starters are in it's awesome to watch them build from the back when they need to. Even so they sometimes give bad passes and misread a pass into space. Our coach hides our (IMO) most talented player in defense, but you can't really tell because the team is pretty stacked with talented kids. We also have a good coach that focuses on development so that helps and I like the fact that he does a lot of fast pace 1v1 and small sided games in practice.
