hey mooserverte how do you like that lonsdale headgear and bag gloves? been looking at their gear lately just haven't made the leap on getting some or not. although i will be getting their boxing shoes sometime tonight
thought I'd chip in because I and a lot of other UK sherdoggers will have used a lot of Lonsdale stuff

would be surprised if you could get those in America, but the bag gloves are like $10, another headguard pictured is about $20 from general sports stores here and that's about right. The other headguard is their competition model which I don't personally rate but it's different from the US competition version which I think is probably made by Ringside. Their boots are quite comfortable and run true to size.

their headgear is very good. the leather one with cheek protectors is very nice and is fully adjustable. the full face one (the cheap version which i have) has very good protection but is made of a material that when hit it makes a crackling sound in your ear. the leather one doesny do this. the full face helmet fully protects the nose as well so that is a plus. the bag gloves are very light and, like most bag mitts, offer limited protection but with wraps it is perfectly fine. i use them for when i want to do quick speed work but i use 10oz boxing gloves for hard hitting and pad work. it depends what you want, but for the very cheap price, they do everything that i could want from them. if you want mitts, then these are a perfect cheap option! :)

i think that they are great for the price, with little complaints. however, their head gear is a little firm but it softens up when broken in / used. i you are don't muay thai or sparring involving kicks i would recommend the one with cheek protectors to see the kicks, but for boxing, the full face is prefect for a cheap option. however, i am looking to upgrade to a bad boy face saver or the lonsdale face saver (barred head gear).

Well, at least one good thing came out of the mrsa infection - I finally got around to cleaning all my gear & taking a few pics.

EDIT: One other good thing that came of this is that it gave me an opportunity to really scrub out the inside of my Ringside Ultimate Classic super bag gloves, my second favorite super bag glove of all time (after the Grants R.I.P.), and it looks like I may be able to put them back in the rotation. On the ultimate classics I used Clorox wipes - at least 4 wipes on the inside of each glove, mixed in with healthy amounts of Lysol spray, and I finished up with about a half a bottle of Fabreeze. Can't wait to take them for a test drive.

Okay, this isn't quite representative, as I have a lot of equipment at my old gym (thai pads, belly pads, body shields, etc); but I don't have plans to go back there, so this is what I've got for the time being.

699SEK is a lot for gloves when you can't see them first in person and for which there are no online reviews. Maybe you should send out a pair to some friendly Euro sherdogger to review

can't tell if sarcasm.... lol

First, keep in mind that 1 pair of Winnings would be worth 10 pairs of KOFightgear. Most of my stuff I got on sale, or before it got stupid expensive (the Grants).

I help(ed) out a lot at the muay thai gym.
In fact, the 2 pairs of Top Contenders in the upper left are strictly loaner gloves.
I also originally intended for the KO Fightgears to be exclusively loaners as well, but balked when initially they seemed a bit too small & hard for sparring.

The Windy shin guards are loaners too. I usually double up with the Title MMAs & the TigerClaws for when I'm holding pads for someone. Just got the Throwdowns right before I got sick. I have 1 pair of headgear for sparring (black), 1 pair for competition (red w/black flames). The Boon Thai cup is the only one i seem to use anymore, the other ones are either in bad shape (blue) or just not good (Revgear - required for the krav maga class I tried out).

As far as gloves after that, I've never actually used the light brown shevlin bag gloves on the center right. Got 'em off ebay for like $15, they were a lot harder, older, & more disgusting than I thought they'd be. I may actually give them a shot now that I've got good knuckle guards and they've been cleaned up some more; but the padding's pretty thin & hard, and there's no wrist support to speak of.

I don't use the Shevlin lace ups and I rarely use the Grants (hate dealing with laces). The Ringside Ultimate Classics have been retired up till now. I save the ASUs for sparring people I want to hurt. I haven't been using the Shevlin velcros much this year either.

For the 8 or so pairs I use, I like to rotate my gloves (sparring & bag). I was thinking about this today; it's funny, I've almost come full circle. I initially invested in rotating my gloves & regularly cleaning them because I got a slight case of ringworm on my forearm from a different pair of Ringside Ultimate Classic Super Bag gloves that I used almost daily. It's sad that doing all that still didn't keep me from getting mrsa. Thing is, I sweat a lot (even with wraps) and nothing feels more gross than putting on a pair of gloves still damp from the day before.

I think my collection's actually pretty sparring glove-heavy right now; especially if I can't get the Ultimate Classics back into rotation. With the switch to boxing full time, I may pick up a pair of Ringside super bag gloves before the end of the year. Wish the prices on Grant super bag gloves hadn't gotten outrageous; they were really my favorite.

^^ Quick tip-

crumple newspaper and stuff it in your gloves after you're done for the day. The newspaper sucks up all the dampness and so keeps germs and smells from growing in them. It's cheap and it works; my gloves don't smell at all (except like leather).

[I learned to do this from none other than this very forum]

Thanks.
I'll try it.
Currently, I use glove dogs, but it doesn't really help.

have you tried the socks filled with sawdust method?

no, but i have made my own glove dogs before: socks filled with cedar hamster cage bedding.

made glove dogs from socks filled with kitty litter & DampRid desiccate before and DO NOT RECOMMEND - the DampRid destroyed anything leather.

cedar and other softwoods release phenols which can be harmful, probably not in quantities that'd do anything remotely noticeable but I'm just throwing that out there. edit: On second thought idk why I brought that up.

ericPorkChop if you could only keep one glove to use for the bags and one for sparring besides the higher end laceups you have what would it be? You have a few Boons so you must rate those pretty highly

My all time 3 favorite pairs of gloves for bags/pads:
#1 Grant Ultimate super bag gloves
#2 Ringside Ultimate Classic super bag gloves
#3 Boon 12oz Training gloves.

Of these, only the Boons are still in active rotation (Ultimate Classics may be making a comeback).

My all time 3 favorite gloves for sparring:
#1 Ringside IMFs
#2 Top Ten 16s
#3 Boon 16oz Training gloves

Boon 14s would actually top this list, I just feel bad about using 14s; even though they have more padding than many 16oz gloves.

EDIT: Sorry, I know that technically doesn't answer your questions; but the implication is that I would keep my Boon 12s for bags/pads and IMFs for sparring.

What is your preferred source for Boon gloves?
