Mr Cupide,

I have one very similar, but I split my training between gym and home. Once I get corrected on technique I make sure I apply it almost every day, that's where the home gym comes into play. Also, the home gym cuts down on the excuses as why NOT to work out. If I get home super late and it doesn't warrant me heading to the gym I just work out at home. It FORCES me to work out if I don't feel like making the drive or I cant make the drive due to time of day.

The pic is not updated, I now have a Reyes Speed bag and DE bag which are super sweet!

I plan to add a bit more, some mats for the entire garage floor as well as an uppercut bag

Nice set up, do you also go to a gym or do most of your training at home?

Divide my training. I use it to reinforce the basics. I had to switch gyms and now its a schedule thing. In Tampa most the boxing gyms are open 9am-9pm. You just go in and out as you please. MMA gyms have schedules : (

Wow very lucky. Where I live boxing gyms AND mma gyms have schedules. Open 2 hours 3 or 4 times a week at inconvenient times like 6-8 or 5-7 when you're just getting off work lol. All i'd need is a boxing gym that can be open the way yours are so I can check in and out at will every day of the week. I hate class based gyms because I can never make the times (especially during the school year when I'm still in class at those times).

Currently I'm training solo in a YMCA type place that open practically all day that has 6 grimy heavy bags, no other boxing equipment, and no coaches. Self coached baby...not going to be improving for a while :D

I don't know about MMA places, but boxing places here are the same. Usually like 5-8pm, Monday-Fri. I work Friday nights and weekends, and usually have 1 night class a semester, hence why I am building up my garage gym as well. I get to the boxing gym 3 times a week (sometimes twice, but usually 3 times) but it's nice to have other options.

Part time gyms are always more plentiful, we have them. They have great staff at a lot of them. The big 3 in Tampa you can train all day if you want. But I found and MMA gym with a real boxing coach.

Self-coaching only works imo with video tape feedback of yourself. I know you can feel a shot when it lands right, but there's nothing like watching what you did for the round, pick out your mistakes.

Edit: the heat in a garage at 1600 hrs in Tampa is lethal. My recovery time is significantly different, and I gas much easier.

Don't I know it. When I train in the garage, it is usually in the late morning or early afternoon. I actually have to change socks and shoes mid training session during the summer because they become water logged

Best to train when its hottest guys i know it sucks but you will be conditioned far better make sure you drink plenty of water. Emmanuel stewart believed in this so much he actually turned on the heat in the kronk gym on top of the normal heat.

Ive always trained like that and its easy going to an air conditioned place for a sparring match.

Training hard pays off you burn more energy, more calories just please please please take alot of water with you!

oh yeah, my gym doesn't have AC either, and it's still hot as fuck at 5pm in there, but it it's better ventilated so it isn't quite as bad. When you train in complete shit conditions, you'll preform a ton better in nice conditions

Self coaching is terrible. It hinders you and allows you to get injured more frequently. I'm 20 now and before this summer had never been injured ever in any sports. Since June I've had a small hairline fracture in my left hand, sprained my right wrist, pulled my hip/tailbone (don't know what it's called but it was spasming). Currently I'm only recovering from the sprained wrist. These things are bound to happen if you've had no guidance and are hitting the heavy bag 5 or 6 days a week for 2 hours before then going to do roadwork and conditioning...I'm an idiot who can't sit down and not exercise with or without a proper coach lol. To to be honest the coach at the gym I left in may did nothing for me other than asking me to clean the gym bathroom and paint the gym for him free of charge if i ever felt like helping out [I didn't].

Also + 1 train in the heat and run with winter clothes on. You will feel so much more fit for it and it's just badass.

There is no self coaching imo. But you can work out alone. You can critique yourself while shadow boxing but thats as close to coaching yourself as youll get. You need a coach no matter how good you are.
