My budget/low end gear. Lot's of British brands. No one piece cost me more than

Comparison of the Fairtex BGL7 Mexican gloves (same as the BGV9 but laces) and Cleto Reyes 16oz, just because I've seen a couple other threads in the past that looked at the two together.

Sorry there's not more pictures. I would take some more but I've sold both pairs.

Similarities:

- The cuff and the padding around it
- The stitching is really well done in both and follows the same tracks for the most part

Differences:

- Reyes is bigger in size and has more room in the glove
- Reyes has softer leather which smells amazing
- Its harder to land with the knuckles and not the fingers in the Fairtex because of how they're cut
- Fairtex has a much rougher lining
- Fairtex has very dense padding (better knuckle protection for bags but unsuitable for sparring)
- The thumb position (personally found the Fairtex more comfortable in this regard)

Pick this bad boy up about two weeks ago. I went into G&S just to browse.

how is it?

I have a full size chest protector(pictured below) and it's a bit much for my needs. This is my first experience with a belly pad. I was going to start a thread to ask a few questions about them, as far as thickness, foam density, construction, etc.

There is no "made in" label on the equipment, nor is there a size label, I'm not sure if they have sizes. I went in and ask to look at the belly pad and the owner pulled one from the back. I tried it on and it fit perfect on my size 32 waist.

So far I love it. It feels like I'm putting a championship belt around my waist. :D I use it strictly for boxing. Protection, ease of use, and mobility is a big improvement over the chest protector.

Have you ever bought any of their gloves?

I have been wondering about them for a while.

All the best,
Gus

I've been wondering about them as well. I went to the store to try on a few items, but started talking to the owner about their history and why they stopped producing their own gloves, then one topic lead to another. From Sonny Liston coming in to get gloves made, glove making, managing, training, the works. Next thing I knew my meter was expired and I had to get my ass back to work.

Thanks for the review bud! Appreciate it!

pretty good actually, don't let the thin profile fool you, seems kinda flimsy at first but when you get tagged pretty good, your not rocked as hard. the cheek padding is kinda thin so if you got a big nose might not be to your liking, but if your asian like me then it shouldn't be a problem.

The lining is kinda rough at first against your skin, but when you start sweating you hardly notice how rough it is. Plus its another type of grain leather so it wont slip around as much. keeps the headgear in place. wont move around as much.

adjusting it to your headsize is pretty straight forward with the two velcro straps to tighten or loosen it. with the back of the head padding and top of the head padding is good too. but totally depends on your sparring partner isnt sneaky enough to hit you there, but the added protection is a plus.the vision most of all is out of this world. great line of sight, and doesn't obscure your vision at all.
I would recommend this product. overall a great piece of gear to own.

just so you know I do have an older model, so the newer ones might have slight changes visually, and the lining I THINK is different.

Have you ever thought about giving gears to underpriviliged youths in third countries like me Bob? ;)

Ziploc bags are the perfect mouth cases! That, and my Shock Doctor cases always fell apart.

That's not including the gear I've already given away. Most of that is now donated to my local fight school.

Thats a wicked little collection you've got there mate!

Thanks, I might get the fg5000 now that I'm gonna be sparring 3 times a week. Also gonna be needing 18oz gloves. After that I'm gonna give my collection a break.
