International Pope Francis has died BREAKING - New Pope Elected - American Cardinal Robert Prevost becomes Pope Leo the XIVth

Would you live and stay holed up here for a year, @Fox by the Sea? I'd do it in a heartbeat and take the tiniest little apartment in the place, just to be around the architecture and artwork alone, lol. It's got just about everything needed: the world's largest church, greatest museum, and an epic library along with a palace, audience hall, science institute, bank, supermarket, pharmacy, post office, media, press, and transmission centers, pretty courtyards and gardens, an armory and separate barracks for the armed forces and state police, even a rail station and fucking heliport. There's also a fire department and plenty of emergency medical equipment and services, but no full-blown hospital. 120 acres, crazy.

Ah for sure. not to mention, Rome's right outside, which is a bonus.
A lot of people would say they'd like to go in the catacombs and see the hidden library, but in all honesty, what would i even understand there? i'd need someone in the know to explain it all to me, cause alone, going through latin-script, greek-script pergaments, i wouldn't make it.

for someone that isn't erudite enough, like me, i feel the experience would collapse into the sensory-tactile part - look at the nice paintings, maybe touch the sculptures, feel the vibe of the gardens and the smell of the flowers in the garden, the atmosphere of midnight mass, there'd be a sense of peace. But would i UNDERSTAND much? i don't know. especially when it comes to the most important part of it all - the archival function of the holy see. plunged in 2000 years of history, isn't something most people can meaningfully do.

One of the biggest bonuses would be exploring the museum's halls and rooms devoid of any other people around. The visitor experience on that front is unfortunately notoriously awful with full-blown hordes congregating and stammering through cramped spaces, most of them rushing to get to the Sistine Chapel. I'll gladly pay a 3000% premium on a regular entry ticket to visit after-hours and avoid that, the way it deserves to be taken in.

There's a lot of claims and conspiracy theories made about the Vatican's monetary wealth, but most of it is tied to real estate and priceless artwork that will never be liquidated or sold. What is truly incomprehensible is the wealth of knowledge on human history as a whole contained in the Holy See's Apostolic Library and Secret Archive (which are separate entities). We can't even begin to imagine what's in there and what it knows. People have stolen shit out of it.

They're so fucking weird! 😭

Sometimes, it's like they have no concept of the new covenant and frequently take the Old Testament out of context or just reference things that aren't applicable. Have you seen parts of Cucker's interview with US Senator Ted Cruz (a Southern Baptist)? I almost felt vicarious embarrassment for him. Carlson was more interested in pushing the political question, but defining Israel is so easy from the perspective of Catholicism. The answer is the Church.

Protestants will always twist themselves into knots because they, by and large, don't subscribe to fulfillment theology (supersessionism). And of course, they wouldn't answer that the new Israel is the Church. There is one above all, and deep down, whether they admit that or not, everybody knows it.

Ted's church.

The Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) is a Christian denomination based in the United States. It is the world's largest Baptist organization, the largest Protestant, and the second-largest Christian body in the United States. In 1845, the Southern Baptists separated from the Triennial Convention to uphold the institution of slavery, as American society divided and split over racial attitudes preceding the American Civil War.

The SBC is a cooperation of fully autonomous, independent churches with commonly held essential beliefs that pool some resources for missions. Churches affiliated with the denomination are
Evangelical in doctrine and practice, emphasizing the significance of the individual conversion experience. This conversion is then affirmed by the person being completely immersed in water for a believer's baptism.

Some of your politicians would make the Taliban cringe. Every time I read shit like this below I think wow this guy is either a hostage or a completely brainwashed suicide cult zealot. Either of which is devastating.

I find the doctrine and theology to be barren, flimsy, and soul crushing, but I really wouldn't give a shit if it wasn't so closely interlinked with American politics. People make a whole lot out of the extraordinary socioeconomic status of American Jews, the disproportionate representation in various industries, and Israel's ability to bribe, blackmail, coerce, and lobby the US gov. It's the driving force, but don't you ever kind of think, "Is that all there is to it, though?". No, and it's not merely a large group of prominent politicians who pledge unwavering support but tens of millions of Evangelical Americans that make up their constituencies who are also proponents of Christian Zionism to one degree or another. Fine is actually Jewish himself, but overall point stands.

I understand the enthusiasm but maybe make the pope a little less accessible? I'd rather he had a long papacy.

He's been hit with an onslaught of activity and obligations even beyond the expected pomp, circumstance, and seemingly endless processions that come with the appointment of a new pope. June has been absolutely slammed with wall to wall solemnities (Ascension, Pentecost, Most Holy Trinity, Corpus Christi, Nativity of St. John the Baptist). It finally concludes and transitions into a sustained period of ordinary time after this weekend with the celebration of St. Peter and St. Paul. And that's a big one, considering there is no Catholic Church nor even Christianity for that matter (at least as we know it) without those cats. They are the most significant post-crucifixion historical figures in the history of the religion.
