No one should ever be getting knocked out cold in a training session. It happens, but it should be consciously avoided.
They stressed that if you weren’t giving it your all and instead, are dancing around or running, it would be bad for them. I didn’t even try to knock him out, but I have heavy hands and have just always hit hard even when not swinging. The guy hit me pretty good knocking out my contact and I hit him back with a jab and it was over.
Academies do these boxing or combat trainings for several reasons-to weed out the weak, but more importantly, the entertainment factor. They just want to see a good fight. I never even saw or felt me connect with him, so I don’t know how hard threw it, but they needed smelling salts to wake him up. It’s also a lot of fun for the cadets. Guys were picking their opponents and talking shit for weeks. No one picked me to fight and no one wanted the country boy with big power in his hands. I was told many times “that dude is going to knock you out and he hits really hard.” I wasn’t going to get into an argument or debate or start bragging. I just said that I liked my chances and I had been doing mma since 97 and kickboxing from 2001 and this fight was 2003.
