Dustin is as calm fighting in close as anyone on the entire roster, including Top. Top may have sharper technique and possibly a power advantage as a LW, but Poirier also has uncanny finishing ability standing; if Dustin smells blood for even a second Ilia will be in very serious trouble. Both have a great hook and are kill or be killed, so it would be one hell of a fight.

In what way is a 36 year old past prime Poirier who hasn't competed as a FW in like 10 years and couldn't possibly make FW anymore a compelling matchup?

It's a big fight. I don't want Topuria vs Max or Volk again. Lopes is good, but not confident he's going to be better on feet than Max. Besides Lopes not many others. Probably Topuria deserves Islam right away though, it doesn't make sense to have a champ fight a non champ unless it's like an Anderson Silva situation where he's destroyed the division.
