Poaton at heavyweight?

If Pereira beats Tom Aspinal at HW, Jon Jones absolutely needs to fight Alex.

They are the same age. Alex would be 2 weight KB champ and a 3 weight UFC champ.

May not be GOAT, but certainly one of the most decorated combat martial artists.

Alex could even go to boxing at that point and be under 40 years old. Finally put an end to Jake Paul's nonsense.

I think he should defend the LHW belt atleast once then why not? It would sell and is definitely a interesting fight and if he loses it wouldn't hurt his stock much. At 36 his time at the top wont last much longer so might as well go big. A UFC 3 division champ would be a huge deal.

Jailton Almeida steamrolls him. The thought of Pereira squirming on the ground against him is hilarious.

I think Aspinal is a tough match. He should at least defend against Hill before moving up.

Unfortunately time is not on Alex's side here. And I don't think all the people calling for a quick 15 lb dirty bulk really understand what it takes to adjust to a new build.

He's already the same size as Stipe.

He's genuinely not. I saw him at an RFL show about a month ago. So he was fully hydrated. He was cornering some local kid.

He's a big dude. I can't imagine how he made 185. But he's not as big as the heavyweights. He doesn't have the same bulk and mass to him.

I might buy that his out of camp walk around weight is around 230, but 230 was like Stipe's lowest-ever, shredded, walking into fight week with a six pack weight.

It would take no effort for a guy that size to put on 10 lbs, Almeida does it every time he fights. You don't seem to understand that light heavyweights are heavyweights who cut weight.

Aspinall beats him however he wants. Path of least resistance though is to take him down and sub him within a minute.

Jiri is 220 and not a grappler. Tom is 261 and a legit black belt. Alex has no hope against a guy who would be 20+ lbs bigger and significantly more athletic and more skilled.

Aspinall is not more skilled, but he is bigger, and he is super-quick for a HW.

Aspinal is not even really bigger than Pereira. there frames are pretty similar but Aspinal is carrying more muscle and fat and the corresponding water weight. Pereira could weight north of 250 in shape if he put some muscle on

Yeah that's how weight cutting works.

But to get to 140 lb of functional steel that he's comfortable moving in isn't just a dirty bulk.

As a general rule I'm not sure how important that bulk would be at HW, because I think heavyweights are generally terrible. Against Aspinal, it might be important. That dude is really good, really big, moves like a much smaller man, and can take a big shot.

The ideal size for a heavyweight has always been in the 240s. Stipe, Cain, JDS. Size isn't that important. Poatan is plenty big already. His wrestling defense is the bigger question.

That certainly begs the question of why Ngannou and Aspinall never seem to kill themselves cutting that extra 20 lb.

Ngannou doesn't cut much, at least not in water weight. He was 270 against Fury.

But surely he wants to get to 240 since that's the ideal weight right? Obviously Aspinall wants to get to that ideal 240 right?

Or maybe that's just a thing people say because it's a thing they've heard.

{<huh}

What the heck are you talking about? 240s is ideal in the sense that is what most of the great heavyweights we see are at. I never implied anyone was cutting to that weight. That would be stupid.

Aspinal if he lost that m

yeah 240 being the ideal weight is bullshit. being larger is better so long as the larger man is very athletic, in fighting shape, and large on frame and not just a guy that lifts a ton of weight to get bigger or is carrying extra fat

He is tall enough, but he doesnt have the "core" of a HW, Aspinall is probably a good 30lbs heavier, i wouldnt mind Pereira fighting for it, but he doesnt have HW power.
