Poaton at heavyweight?

I don't think it'll happen before he loses at LHW. Would love to be wrong.

Yeah it would be smart to stay at LHW for a while and rack up some defenses.

If he's out of the title picture he might as well give HW a shot. That could happen fast at 205 with one bad matchup.

Thing is he's 36 now, could be years before he moves up.

I can't stop thinking about him against Derrick Lewis and imaging how that would go down <45>

Let's be honest Potan has become 185/205 champ in the UFC on the back of matchmaking.

Can he get the matchmaking in HW? I think he's going to need to start out ranked #15 and prove himself unlike the quick path he's had in 205.

No way.

Alex has beaten Jan and Jiri at LHW.

If he beats Hill, and probably Johnny Walker, I could see a trip up to visit Aspinal. That would be after the interim is unified and Jones retires.

If Alex becomes the first 3 weight champ, does daddy Jones come back just to take his belt back at HW?

Alex is an averaged sized lhw. The ufc commentators like to exaggerate his size. He has a very narrow frame, think lean legs, and would be massively undersized at hw. It will never happen

He didn't defend the 205 championship in Glory sucessfully. How many defenses can we expect from him at 205 in the UFC?

To his credit though he's already beaten 4 UFC current/former champs (Israel, Strickland, Jan, Jiri) in 7 UFC fights.

This is why I think he should do this now. He's 36 and has a limited amount of time left in the sport. Winning a third title is his only path to being on the mma GOAT list and I can't imagine anyone else doing that anytime in the near future. Winning titles in multiple divisions is the cheat code to greatness and getting 3 would be insane.

Aspinall is a better striker than Pereira
Also, would sub him easy

If I were to make a wild prediction based on my gut feeling I would say he loses the title in one of his next 2 fights, and never gets it back again. Goes up to HW and shits the bed too. Seems outrageous I know considering he's a phenom with 2 belts in 11 fights.

If UFC see a demand to push that narrative I have no doubts they will, but if that narrative makes less money than another narrative I believe they will make the $ move with the position of power. However it pans out will be exciting, can't wait to see what happens :)

I don't see why they would be against this. The alternative would be for Aspinall to defend against Gane or Volkov or someone. Pereira trying to become the first triple champ is something they can sell. And if he wins they have a big fight for Jones other than Stipe.

If Potan got to the point of beating Aspinal I'm sure he could take a 40 year old Jones.

Potan should stay in 205. He's new enough in the division for plenty of fun fights.

I don't think it goes great for him but fuck it I'd be down to see him try if he beats Hill

I agree they probably should move in this direction, but it's obviously a first time situation, we don't have a ton of evidence on how the UFC will play this, in other situations these kind of things imo seem to be based on Popularity and people who are very appreciated by the company getting opportunities... I don't truly know whether he's enough of a global star for them to do it or whether he's appreciated as much as folks like DC and Conor were/are by the men who make the decisions.

I also don't really know what is happening with Jon Jones, I think that'll play a huge part in it all.

It all sounds very glamorous and ideal but then I remember how people like Tony Ferguson were treated.

Tony was injured and lost a bunch of fights though. Pereira is on top of the world right now.

Alex’s grappling is honestly not here. I think Blaydes and Jailton maul him. He might be champion with the right matchups but even guys like Jones or Stipe will beat him too

He was, I still think they did him dirty in a few ways, besides the point though.

In terms of casual fan popularity Paddy fuckin Pimblett is a bigger deal than Poatan, unfortunately I hold quite a lot of weight to the weight UFC put on that, once again I hope I'm wrong and I seriously could be.

Jiri was tagging him on one leg. hes better off leg kicking bloated MWs and such.
Now Jiri and Jan are "bloated MWs"?
Poatan haters confuse me, guy is a quiet stoic killing machine.
Point of the thread, no, the size of guys like Blaydes at HW would be too much for Poatan I think, and I'm a fan that's bet money on him in every one of his UFC fights.
