Poatan vs Ankalaev : whats the Path for the rematch ?

I think when Poatan goes 8 weeks without any distractions, he wins. It's a strategic game where Poatan's team has to come up with a good plan.

There’s one thing that Ank and Adesanya share that compromised Pereira - they didn’t allow him to get into his rhythm and setting the pace to time his punches. Strong example of this is Pereira against Hill/ Herb Dean debacle.

That being said I don’t think Poatan wins.

I feel like his best chance was the first fight. Not only did Ank look faster striking, but he'll have an even better gameplan with the 1st fight done. Pereira has to go wild and out on his shield to win a rematch. Watch he strikes in the rematch and gets taken down like people expected lol.

Hard to say what Alex can do better. If he gets more aggressive with hands, he can easily be clipped. Ankalaev is way faster with hands and reflexes. Probably also more durable.

But Alex has that power, I feel like he did the best he can, kicks and distance - he can only wait to get some good counter, volume punching won't work, Ankalaev would get him.

either he tries to win a battle of attrition by getting active from the start and attacking Ank's body, or be ready to punish Ank in the majority of the exchanges. he should forget about defending takedowns. just focus on NOT losing the striking battles because that's literally his only way to win.

it's not like Ank is known for this insane ground game, stop treating the grappling like it's the plague and stop letting it worry you so much during the fight. i'd rather he fight him like this was K-1 and win the striking and get taken down, then to stop the takedowns while getting outstruck.

it's a risk, but that's the game.

did you watch the fight?
did alex looked like a predator out there?
and ank looked like a prey being stalked?🤣🤣
The way idiots like you talk make it seem like Ankalaev was illia topuria knocking volks head off instead of a questionable Dec.

And I'm happy for Ankalaev he was robbed a LHW title with the draw so him getting a Dec here ok but god his fans are fucking obnoxious.

This is truth. Observing Poatans fights he doesn’t really possess the tools to outbox Ank. What people fail to understand is the kickboxing orgs encourage the come forward style and it is very transferable against sloppy brawlers like Jiri, Hill, Rountree.

Striking for MMA is a different kettle of fish with all the grappling etc. You won’t find the blueprint for someone like Ank in Glory. It can’t be replicated and what with Poatans age and experience i don’t think he can make the necessary adjustments to beat Ank. You know who will make better adjustments ? Ankalaev. As @StoneWT said Pereira and his team will make adjustments according to their first fight yet Ank will mix things up even further.

As long as Ank is the champ he’s not wearing the strap again UNLESS as you said he goes out on his shield and risks getting countered. BIG if though. I like @JustOnce breakdown of Ank. He showed exemplary ring IQ.

I think one way Alex can win is via robbery lol. I didn't think it was necessarily close, but there were plenty ppl on mmadecisions who gave it to Alex.

I like Alex, and I personally don't like the immediate rematch. I really don't think he has done anything at all against Ank in the first one, tho he may have won a couple rounds here and there.

Alex is a super dangerous guy, so I wouldn't count him out, but on paper, you know I said this before the fight, on paper if you were looking at it without the names, you'd back Ankalaev by a lot. But Alex is a special fighter, so it could've gone either way.

I just don't see a lot of things Alex can do other than like you mention try to do more. I'm not sure if Alex will be willing to do that since he seems to think he won.
I think in the rematch they might try to do a little more active I guess.

All in all, I don't really think it's a good idea for an immediate rematch. It reminds me of Cain/JDS 3. I didn't think it was a great idea. I know Alex/Ank was a lot more competitive on the surface, but I really don't think Alex looked good.

It's like playing chess against AI in a way. It might look close, but you are always going to lose. I know Alex won a couple maybe, but he wasn't winning that fight as a whole, and I really didn't see anything that makes me think the rematch would be a good idea.

But, Alex was on a special run and I wouldn't count him out. I would be surprised if he won this time around though, and I personally don't care much about seeing it again.

He will have to go forward a lot more this time. I guess only heavens know if he's willing to do that with wrestling and forward combinations Ankhalaev throws with head kicks and all.

I agree. Ank is just better. He is a more well rounded fighter.

Well we knew that, I've been saying that, people just didn't rate Ank, but Alex has that power.

I don't think it will be enough for him after seeing the first fight, but i've been wrong plenty.

Alex needs to be aggressive and maintain control.

More straight right leads. More calf kicks early. He should attempt a few takedowns early. Uppercuts would come in handy when Ank goes for takedowns.

Keep his back off the cage and if he gets his back to the cage he should move Ank into the cage and control the clinch each time. Practice dirty boxing.

Ank just needs more of what he did in the first fight except he needs to secure a few takedowns and score strikes when in top control, do some damage.

If I was Alex I’d avoid that boring fkn fight … move into hw and go for that title fight since jones won’t sign the contract

Big fights only

Who cares about the belt - legacy fights only - dare to be great and try the untried
