This is truth. Observing Poatans fights he doesn’t really possess the tools to outbox Ank. What people fail to understand is the kickboxing orgs encourage the come forward style and it is very transferable against sloppy brawlers like Jiri, Hill, Rountree.
Striking for MMA is a different kettle of fish with all the grappling etc. You won’t find the blueprint for someone like Ank in Glory. It can’t be replicated and what with Poatans age and experience i don’t think he can make the necessary adjustments to beat Ank. You know who will make better adjustments ? Ankalaev. As
@StoneWT said Pereira and his team will make adjustments according to their first fight yet Ank will mix things up even further.
As long as Ank is the champ he’s not wearing the strap again UNLESS as you said he goes out on his shield and risks getting countered. BIG if though. I like
@JustOnce breakdown of Ank. He showed exemplary ring IQ.
I think one way Alex can win is via robbery lol. I didn't think it was necessarily close, but there were plenty ppl on mmadecisions who gave it to Alex.
I like Alex, and I personally don't like the immediate rematch. I really don't think he has done anything at all against Ank in the first one, tho he may have won a couple rounds here and there.
Alex is a super dangerous guy, so I wouldn't count him out, but on paper, you know I said this before the fight, on paper if you were looking at it without the names, you'd back Ankalaev by a lot. But Alex is a special fighter, so it could've gone either way.
I just don't see a lot of things Alex can do other than like you mention try to do more. I'm not sure if Alex will be willing to do that since he seems to think he won.
I think in the rematch they might try to do a little more active I guess.
All in all, I don't really think it's a good idea for an immediate rematch. It reminds me of Cain/JDS 3. I didn't think it was a great idea. I know Alex/Ank was a lot more competitive on the surface, but I really don't think Alex looked good.
It's like playing chess against AI in a way. It might look close, but you are always going to lose. I know Alex won a couple maybe, but he wasn't winning that fight as a whole, and I really didn't see anything that makes me think the rematch would be a good idea.
But, Alex was on a special run and I wouldn't count him out. I would be surprised if he won this time around though, and I personally don't care much about seeing it again.
He will have to go forward a lot more this time. I guess only heavens know if he's willing to do that with wrestling and forward combinations Ankhalaev throws with head kicks and all.
