So I remember in high school wrestling that we did workouts with a 45lb plate. I know lots of wrestling teams, high school and college use plates and do lots of complexes with them.

    Why?

Is it just easier because theres no shortage of plates? Not enough dumbbells so use a plate?

I'm just wondering where it came from and why a 45lb plate seems to be the standard for complexes on wrestling teams.

I'd imagine a) there's lots of them and b) they're awkward to handle, therefore suitable for building grappling strength-endurance.
