Well the guinea pig was put to sleep by my old vet at my place around 12.30pm today.
The previous midnight was the first time the gp starting eating a few spinach leaves of her own accord which was great, but her injury never improved and she just couldn't walk.
She kept toppling over, couldn't clean herself, couldn't grasp food. Her quality of life was crap!

I got Jackie[the vet] to give her a sedation injection first and then 5 minutes later she was given the big fatal one which i think gets injected into an organ. She didn't squeak or show she was in pain so hopefully she was ok.

My first vet when i started keeping pet rats would just shove the needle with the fatal juice in it right into the rat's heart[or try anyway] and it was awful. My very first rat 'Stranglers' really screamed when he did this to her, it was so awful.
Back then i knew nothing about this type of thing, i didn't have a computer. Once i did get one i got so much info from various rat forums and discovered the way that vet was euthanizing the animals was very painful.
I found a much more caring vet after that. Having it done at home makes a bad situation a little bit better for the owner and for the animal.

Even tho' i only met the gp a few days ago it did kinda upset me tbh, holding the little thing in my hand while she died.
The day before she actually fell asleep in that same hand! She was very trusting and never once tried to bite me.
Fuck the owner of the poor guinea pig!

I'm gonna try and put some pics on this post, may not work.

So you stole your neighbors Guinea Pig then killed it?

RIP.

I'll never forget when my father was put down. Doctor pulled out like 5 HUGE needles and injected them one after another. It seems to be a pretty painless way to go.

Did vet tell you what is possibly wrong with the GP? I know it was neglected, but was it starvation, heat stroke?

It's really fucked up that this ended this way. Maybe you can get a report written up by the vet and file it with the police for animal cruelty?

I can't imagine paying someone to put an animal down.

Ok, maybe a dog I owned for its whole life, even then, I think I would call a friend to do it. I guess states have laws against you doing it yourself, but a trip out to the wilderness, seems a better place to die, then an office.

My ex's neighbors shot their old ass dog right in their back yard. She called The cops and they did show but they said it was their property and it wasn't close to the road or anyone else's property. Probably differs from place to place.

RIP guinea pig. We barely knew ye.

He said it was done at his place tho.

My mother had to drown one of my hamsters. It was “dead” but still breathing. It was awful. Called the vet but said they wouldn’t take hamsters.

I feel fucking awful every time I think about it.

Then it reminds me, when I was a kid and my cats got knocked up, my mother would drown each kitten after it was born.

When I was a very young kid I intentionally drowned several baby degus(kind of like GP crossed with a rat) because the mom rejected them. It fucked me up for a LONG TIME. Now that I'm older and not an idiot kid, I realize they would have been perfectly fine if I just raised them in a separate cage. For whatever reason my child mind just assumed they would die....RIP

Degus are fantastic pets btw.

Your mom's a savage.

I think it is weird how we treat death. We hide it, and dress it up to sterilize it. Not sure that is the most healthy way to treat death as a society.

Well this thread just keeps getting more depressing s:

Have you watched Six Feet Under?

What the fuck is wrong with your mother??? Was she born that way?

Great biz idea. A hospice for pets and animals put in scenic locations.

Did your mom stare at you, and tell you she would drown your babies too, if you got pregnant as a teenager?

I should bill that woman the cost of the euthanasia!
The cost is usually between $120-$180 apparently.
However she only charged me $50. I only just found out today that she'd been giving me this discounted rate all the years i had to have rats put to sleep, really nice of her. I never knew.

At the moment gp and also my last rat 'the shadow' are both in the freezer! Yes, that's right!
The Shadow died around 2.5 yrs ago, but i've never gotten round to burying him, just lazy!!!
Actually i will bury them both over the next few days. I have large potted ferns on the balcony and the dead alway go in them. And no, there is no smell!

I should of asked about what the vet thought was wrong with the gp, i forgot, i was upset. However that woman got the gp around 2 wks ago i think, something like that. I'm sure she didn't point to the cage of gps in the pet shop and say, we'll have the crippled one that can't walk!
So the crippling must of happened while under her or her kid's care. I still think she may of been dropped, but we'll never know.

Actually i've been thinking of going down to her yard and damaging the wooden hutch so she doesn't get another gp!
