Nature & Animals Dog had an emergency surgery

Rosie update: This morning it was like my old fighting days. I got up early and boiled her some chicken and made some more sweet potatoes. Just a few minutes ago, I offered her a combo of the two in a little ball and she ate 3 little balls and is now resting. This has given me so much anxiety but thankfully she is coming around. The scariest part was they said if her appetite didn't return in some form or fashion withing 24 hours she'd need to be looked at for complications. So far, that ship has sailed at least. Hug your pets a little extra as this shit came out of nowhere.

I'm glad to see she is doing good now. One of my dogs just recently got tick fever which obv isn't as extreme, but it still sucked to see him so weak and down compared to our other dogs. Seeing a dog suffering is something that will always upset me, but seeing someone care for them and make them better will always make me happy

Pet insurance is a scam by the same people that are charging $7000 for dog surgery. Fuck every single one of them. Find an honest vet. They still exist.
My friend's dog just had surgery on it's leg because it tore a ligament, and the surgery was $10k

You know what? That was part of my reason for posting this thread. I think it is great when our animals have a strong advocate and I LOVE seeing when others advocate for theirs. I hope you dog gets better soon.

Our estimate was 6900-10000 for this and I'm thankful it was the lower end. I wanted to buy a Lambo with my crypto gains, but here we are lol.

Glad your doggo is doing better, Red Beard. It’s so stressful when our four legged pals are sick.

Pet insurance, my dude! Get a policy! Mine covers 80% of any non pre-existing condition.
Whats the cost of that a month?

Glad Doggo's OK, and ouch on the 7K !

Decided it's worth getting robbed to save the family pet. Can't blame ya. Doggo looks healthy and ready to eat whatever's in sight.
Been there, done that.

@Red Beard knows the rewards of love and happiness the right dog brings are immeasurable. :)

There are plenty of vets that will save your pet and not fuck you dry in the process. But they’re usually not as flashy or easy to find as the crooks.
You have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about. I pay for pet insurance and when it comes to your local vet asking you to visit specialists to accomplish something, you’ll find yourself a privileged and educated individual.

Personally, pet insurance saved me 20K. It’s worth every penny I pay. How much did they raise my rate for this? By 11 dollars. I pay 94/mth usd.

Mine is $32.48/month. It has a $100 deductible, so when something goes wrong I pay the first $100. But after that they cover 80% of anything else that isn’t a pre-existing condition, or routine preventative care like vaccines and stuff. I use Pets Best for my policy.

Heh.

I have one friend and one family member whose dog insurance saved them thousands of dollars on both all the diagnostic tests and the eventual surgeries that saved their dogs.

I have also known people with no insurance and told 'the tests will cost this much and then and only then will we know if your dog can be saved', decided to instead put the dog down, rather than spend a bunch money only to risk being told the dog could not be saved.

So yes, dog insurance is good as it both allows you to do all the diagnostics mostly cost/risk free and then save the dog , if necessary.

Honest vet's do not work for free and are not cheap for complex surgeries.

Glad Rosie is doing good!

As far as pet insurance. I think most people would be better off putting $40 a month into a savings account earmarked for pet emergencies and just using it if/when they need it. You'd probably come out ahead and if you didn't need it, well then, you got your money sitting there for you to buy a new pet.
