'If only there'd been a good guy with a gun...' - such crap. This #FortHood soldier/shooter WAS a good guy. Until he turned bad, with a gun.

Such logic. Much wow.

He'd fit right in here at Sherdog. #nailed

The #FortHood shooter wasn't a 'bad guy with a gun'. He was a brave soldier, loving family man, suffering mental illness.

He's asking to get shot isn't he?

A pathetic attempt to justify his preconceived notions.

it would be great to see him get his ass kicked on live t.v..... limey twat

Gun perverts will always find a reason to call for more guns.

It makes them feel more secure in their position when other people are forced to abide by their paranoia.

It's a cultural sickness. America's shame.

So a gun grab is in order? That's what he'd like.

Hhaha yeah..what happens when all these Hero cops Byron wants in schools go nuts and start shooting students?

Gun advocates have to grow up, I have never met one who isnt a giant man child. Their immaturity gets people killed for goodness sake!

I think what he meant was honest enough. If veteran soldiers aren't able to get serious mental healthcare what chances do the rest of us have regarding psychoses leading to violent outburst? It has little to do with the gun debate, I think that was his first point. Soldiers and police aren't going to be disarmed if the rest of us are, and we're still not going to invest in their mental health until tragedy happens. It seems like war would be trauma enough to seriously invest in their ability to cope with civilian society. This latest Ft. Hood guy is very interesting because he'd been in so long and was still a specialist. So at the same base we have a career going-nowhere soldier who lashes out and a career on easy-street major going on rampage.

The ongoing investigation has a strong indication that the trigger event for the shooting may have been an altercation between Lopez and a soldier, or soldiers, Milley said.

McHugh said that Lopez, who served in Iraq for four months as a truck driver from August to December 2011, was last examined by a psychiatrist in March and showed no violent tendencies. Service records indicated that Lopez saw no action during his deployment.

But behind Lopez's smile lay a history of depression, anxiety and other psychiatric disorders, Milley told reporters. The soldier was receiving treatment and taking antidepressants, Milley said.
He had served for four months in Iraq in 2011. And while Army records don't show him as having been wounded there, Lopez himself reported that he had suffered a traumatic brain injury, Milley said.

And he was undergoing diagnosis procedures for post-traumatic stress disorder.

"He was not diagnosed, as of today, with PTSD," Milley said.

You are the disease.....and guns are the cure.

Seriously, you want to know what a sickness is? Human beings who have forgotten they have a right to self defense. And yes, the more guns the better.

I'm not sure where you are but we have had cops in schools for a LONG time in Texas, at least a decade.

Piers is a raging twat

But I really don't get the mentality that more guns are the answer. Christ, there are already more guns in Texas than there are people and yet it is STILL the murder capital of the US.

For the record, I'm not anti-gun. I'm just so sick and tired of the way debates from one way to another. From either being anti-gun or pro-gun. The black and white thinking that goes on is nauseating.

arkansas-gun-sign.jpg

The sign from a private school in Arkansas, in which their school staff is armed.

I have no objections to a weapon in proper, responsible hands being used as a countermeasure in any school. I think the sign alone would be a reasonable deterrent and even make a potential shooter think twice.

seeing how riled up gun nutters get about piers i might actually start to like him

You either have a right to defend yourself or you do not. When one of those murderous people shows up on your doorstep you don't really want to be caught holding nothing but your dick.

You say well, if guns were illegal then maybe the bad guy wouldn't have a gun. The answer is yes he would, you just wouldn't because you are a law abiding citizen. The question is basic and most people refuse to answer it.

Do you or do you not have a right to self defense?
