PBP PFL Road to Dubai Champions Series: Nurmagomedov vs. Hughes ***Sherdog Discussion*** 1/25 11AM ET (MAX)

Absolutely stunning stupidity on your part to use a BJ Penn gif when BJ famously lost a controversial decision to Frankie Edgar in...

Abu Dhabi
Yeah the Shieks over there def favor Frankie Edgar for some made up reason.

The same people that ignore Musk's nazi salute about to rage against Khabib online.
lol, I am not getting into this but I saw it live and it did not happen. lol. Its an editing trick, go to youtube in the comments and you will see pictures of like 10 different politicians they cropped looking the same way. All media has lost there minds so don't feel bad as I have been tricked before as well.

I'm an idiot for saying a place that's known to simply throw money at problems might be throwing money at problems with fights too.

Okay Substack

Yes. You are.

Score cards match what Sherdog Play by Play was scoring....so a (close) clean win for Usman. Without that point deduction it would have been unanimous. Hughs is going to regret some of the showboating he was attempting. If he kept laser focus, he could have won the belt.

And? He didn't speak on the mic after Usman's loss.

UFC & PFL both use his presence & legacy to puff up how they promote Islam, Umar and Usman. He doesn't go out of his way seeking any attention.
Why would Khabib want any attention after Usman's loss lmaoooo

Sometimes people on sherdog will send me an alert
I knew it was on and quickly tried to chuck the fight on and it was already over.

I wonder if I can find a replay somewhere. Sounds like a great close fight, that could have gone either way.

I love it when we go through these evolutions in MMA and dominant teams start looking beatable. Makes sense why this Hughes guy beat up Mckee.

Have a good day everyone I might be back for BKFC but know nothing about that event.

If PFL is smart they will upload it fast and show they have fights of this level.

Why are you acting like this was a egregious robbery?
Cause we literally changed the rules years ago that yes the big moments in striking and grappling occurences are supposed to be deciding factors in scoring rounds.

The only way Usman wins this fight is if you're still using the old scoring system out of bad habit.

The guy is a kneejerk hater lol

Think about all those nurmagomedov victories.

This is him.

Awesome high-level fight.

Had it 47-47 but could’ve been 48-46 either way - Usman won 1/4, Hughes won 3, 2 and 5 were toss-ups.

As already noted Hughes was great in short bursts but was largely stalking and getting out pointed for long stretches. Looks like judges favored the steady activity over the short bursts.

If Hughes got that body work going sooner might’ve been his fight for sure.

A rematch would be sweet

He was literally striking every time he took him down, to the face, to the butt

The scoring criteria specifically says that those big moments are what's meant to win the fight, provided they contribute to possibly ending the fight.

I wish PFL advertised better because I missed this fight, but it sounds like a good one.
Like all good teams it seems people are catching up to the Dagi's wrestling wise.
Well yeah, in a general sense. But there’s more nuance to it, it depends how big the moments are. Is one good punch that doesn’t wobble or drop the opponent better than 10 solid but maybe not quite as impactful blows? Not necessarily. It’s up to the observer to determine that.

In this fight, they weren’t knockdowns or something massive like that. They were moments of success where he’d land a couple good shots while getting picked apart with solid shots for the rest of the fight.

Usman also had several of those "big moments" while also being the more overall consistent.
