Petr Yan accuses the UFC of showing favoritism toward Sean O’Malley

It's also possible that O'Malley had a rematch clause in his contract, but was injured after the fight. I'm not sure how these things work, but you could argue that if this is true his contract entitles him to a rematch with Merab whether he's champion or not, once O'Malley is healthy.

This is also almost certainly why Strickland was given a rematch with DDP. Even before the fight was signed + announced, Strickland said that fight was "set in stone" and "owed" to him. The way he was talking about it made it sound like he had a guaranteed rematch clause.

But ya, even if there is a rematch clause, I'm sure the UFC didn't argue too hard. They obviously favor O'Malley as well.

Even though I thought Petr won their fight, it was such a badass performance by both men that you can’t be mad at the result. They need to have a 5 round rematch.

Besides Petr got neutralized by Merab, Sean actually hurt Merab in a few occasions.

Saying the UFC fixed the outcome of their first fight is stupid for a lot of reasons.

But also, yeah no shit O'malley gets a lot of favoritism
Your first sentence clashes with your second

Why would O'Malley being strongly favored by the UFC mean that he couldn't get a fixed outcome from that same UFC? Because of the UFC's great morals/integrity I suppose?

The same UFC that Herb "fight fixer" Dean worked 229 in the most public way possible then they tried to strip Khabib of his belt after getting the wrong result, with only massive public backlash forcing them to cave? Hell, let's not even look at anything other than O'Malley fights. He had his fight vs Moutinho fixed (Dean as ref), then had his fight vs Merab fixed (gee whiz Dean as ref again / think I'm seeing a pattern), but he couldn't have had his fight vs Yan fixed?

True dat Peter. And you probably shouldn't accuse your employers of fight fixing. Those words may have consequences later.

He didn’t really need to mention something so obvious
Nah he did. Calling out corruption is the single most important step prior to fixing corruption.

Teh UFC puts on fights that people want to see.

Sean does weekly podcasts & has developed his image to the public very strategically.

Instead of bitching aboot it, perhaps you could learn to be about it.

Maybe Yan should turn into an edgy-poodle for some quick momentum

Merab vs Omalley 2 is solid meh material.

I agree Yan won but these MMA journalists are hot shit, quoting them as some kind of proof can and will come back to bite you in the ass.

Fight was reasonably close too, I thought it was a bad decision but I've seen much worse.

I'm in the minority of believing O'Malley beat Yan, but yes, he hasn't done anything to warrant a rematch.

Yes he suffered an injury and needed surgery, but the division keeps moving

Definitely, but I find it funny how he calls Sean names, chicken, etc. Where he lost to him. Sure, you can say he won but he got his ass whooped a bit there by a chicken. If Sean was such a chicken as he makes it he would have destroyed him in round one.

There’s a reason the UFC doesn’t want these two to match up again.
