I agree with your basic take but not your solution. You won't sway the snobs with a word swap, and no one will remember the U stands for Unified because the UFC has drilled it into our heads that it stands for Ultimate.
 
I use to think Ultimate Fighting was a better name for NHB or MMA.
 
Should be called SherMA, but probably will never happen because it would sound too haughty and unattainable to mere mortals.
