Pereira on the decision: He didn't really do anything

Probably would have been more believable if he didn't show up with a bruised face.

Alex can repeat the twitter talking points if he wants to make himself feel better, Ank won that fight, most objective people who aren't either Pereira fanboys, or Dagestani haters agree on this
Even with that, i had 1,3,5 poatan, i recall the more damaging hits and that headkick in rd 5

And when in doubt, the champ should remain…

Alex was way too cautious. And i thought he lost even though i wanted him to win. That said, Alex is a way better striker, if he goes in 100%.
He was way too slow, his age is really showing, skills not enough to overcome prime ank.

Oh I thought for a second we had a self-aware moment.

If Ankalaev didn't do anything, then Pereira did less.

Now, I don't think that's true, they both did a lot. But Pereira is being silly here.

well poatan didnt do anything but just to survive
poatan looked like a prey out there getting stalked by a predator ankalaev

he was always slower lmfao
his MMA skills didnt help
being a 1 dimensional fighter didnt help

You are getting it wrong. He means that with the fence hugging he really didn’t do anything, didn’t advance, didn’t hurt him, did nothing. And that is true.
All he did was stalling the fight and kept it safe for himself, for the last two rounds, which is wise but also not very fan friendly or entertaining. And if that type of point “fighting” is awarded, more events are going to get boring.

That being said, in my opinion owl was the aggressor in the first three rounds, and I wish he would have really wrestled his way into the win, but I can’t get behind the fence hugging. That really sucked everything out of his win.

I honestly don't know how some people can legitimately score that fight for Alex even under unified MMA rules.

Ank was walking him down and getting the better of most of those exchanges.
Because it was a close fight?

The following isn't a run at you, paintbucket, just some of my general thoughts on newer fans of the sport and the forum.

The people trying to already rewrite history like this was some GSP level 50-45 blowout from Ank either didn't watch the same fight we all did, or can only remember the last ten seconds of the second round.

10 years ago, a title fight this close between two killers would be having people foaming at the mouth at the prospect of a rematch, discussions about alterations to gameplans and what to expect, especially in a division as top heavy as LHW.

Now the forum is filled with "i told you so" non-training gayboys who are barely fans of the sport and more fans of schadenfreude. They don't care to see a favorite fighter win, they just like to see ones liked by others lose. It's a very strange subset of people.

Most people that have been here for a long time used to look forward to visiting the forum after cards, now the PBP is the only good part of weekend discussion about a PPV, and the rest of the heavies is a dumpster fire for a week after a card. That which starts sweet, ends bitter.

Yeah, how dares he to come up with a diverse gameplan.

I guess Ank is the first opponent who's not that undersized, old or technically limited so the confusion is understandable.

C'mon Alex, don't start with this shit

I thought he won too but let's not act like it couldn't have gone either way

Back then people would be frothing at the mouth to watch these two killers who are the clear top 2 guys in the division, now they'd rather watch a one dimensional #8 guy with only 1 career ranked win get the shot.
<damn>

It'll be interesting to see if in the rematch Poatan decides to put his usual pressure on and throw more, which will leave him a bit more vulnerable to be taken down in the middle of the octagon.

I agree with Pereira.

Alex will get the chance to get the belt back in the rematch.

I wouldnt count Alex out.

sore looser Alex ,
Ank played Perreira's game and beat him standing. Ank even rocked him.
what did Alex do to win this fight ? absolutely nothing and he had no shame to raise his hands after the fight

size difference is very huge. Alex looks like one weight class above

Not particularly a big fan of either. But was hoping to see Alex continue his streak I suppose. I'm shocked there's anyone who thinks Alex could've won that fight. He got beat on the feet and yes, there was some clinching, but Alex did nothing. It wasn't like he held him against the fence all fight and dove for takedowns out of fear. He mixed it up, and won easily in my opinion.
