Pereira on the decision: He didn't really do anything

Welp, thats it for Him. He's gone into making laughable excuses and crying like a baby. Thats the end of the line for Alex. He'll never win another meaningful (title) fight again.

Alex was able to trip him down at the end of one of the rounds....OK so where was that before?

You COULD HAVE done better than you did.

This is the most significant moment of the fight

yes and it gave a round to ank, not the entire fight.

I agree, though Alex ALSO did absolutely next to nothing in this fight as well.

Guy threw about 5 punches in 25 minutes.

This is the best take.

Anyone trying to explain away that Ankalaev was doing wall & stall point fighting is delusional, but in reality this is simply nothing wrong with that. It was effective, he scored and won a 3-2 decision over it. Its up to Poatan to be able to counter grapple out of being held.

They both took turns moving forward, I don't think you blame either guy for avoiding action in the open, but Alex was so cautious about getting taken down he didn't box enough, same deal that is his own short coming. Relied too much on calf kicks.

IMO Alex lost a winnable fight by not taking more risks and Ank fought with a very tight game plan to score.

Poatan couldnt stop it. Imagine losing your title cos someone held you against the cage and you let them??

That clearly wasn't all Ank did but that's what he's bitching about in the post fight and he let it happen.

That is exactly what I wrote - its up to Alex to counter grapple out of being held against the cage. Complaining that someone is fighting to score points instead of KO/sub their opponent is meaningless, that is just how MMA works.

re: "all Ank did" I think he's saying this in the context specifically of the two rounds he won on the score cards where that was certainly what won him the rounds.

Guy threw about 5 punches in 25 minutes.

Jack Slack called it, Alex has trouble with southpaws who can beat him in the lead hand fight and neutralize his left hand.

Ank may not have done much damage, but Alex arguably did less.

He needs to own the loss and go back to the drawing board with Plinio and Glover.

Work on his counter right and right hook vs tall southpaws with great lead hand parrying.

I would rather see a quick turn around for Ank vs Jiri in the summer and give Alex time to train before a rematch vs winner near the end of the year.

I saw only one guy wobble back and get saved by the bell. Leg kicks and backing up for 5 rounds wont win you the fight Chama man

The fight was a total dud, Alex has no room to talk. He landed 11 punches in 25 mins. Next time he fights him, he better actually show up, or he will lose the same way.

Only one of them got Rocked in the fight and it wasn't Ank.
The complaint basically equates to "They didn't give me another win in MMA because my opponent didn't agree to only kickbox against me" is sad. Alex did a great job not getting taken down but he did a shit job fighting while not getting taken down. Ank did a great job striking with a striker by threatening TDs and clinching.

All these complaints makes me wonder why don't some of you go watch kickboxing? They don't have any TDs or Wall n Stall.
This. We are watching MMA, not kickboxing. I'm really getting tired of this "why doesn't this guy fight in a style that pleases me" or "why doesn't this guy fight in a style that favours the guy I'm rooting for." Fuck off with that bullshit. Plus it's not easy to control a guy against the cage, it takes technique, strength and cardio, if the other guy can match the technique , strength and cardio, then he'll be able to get off the cage/ground.

Love Alex but he fought in a defensive way. If he opened up more, there could have been more action as well. Both folks at fault but no way Alex won. I

I'm a Pereira fanboy but Ank won that fight clearly.
