Pavlovich/Aspinall or Velasquez JDS 1

I feel the same. Cain vs JDS were both on a tear but I feel both Cain and JDS weren't as well rounded(they were generally better than their opponent at controlling where the fight takes place though which helps immensely)as Sergei or Aspinall especially but both were on a better streak than the latter and it was for the real belt and the first Fox show.
Yeeeah, Cain v JDS I WAS the first big, free public Fox show. That really added to its aura and accessibility.... (and the public BEATDOWN that ensued!)

Excited for this, but for me its Cain/JDS 1 on both counts. Cain had slaughtered Brock in his previous fight and JDS was coming off of dominating Carwin. Pav and Aspinall havent really had high profile fights to put them on the map like that yet.

Then add in that there was a lot of hype over the UFC getting on Fox, and that it was during the absolute peak of the UFC HW division in terms of profile (Brock/Reem happened a few weeks later), and yeah, its definitely Cain/JDS.

Cain Vs JDS was a mini Fedor Vs Mirko level fight

pav Vs Tom is a Cory Vs Yan for interim title type fight

Dumb thread

Cain was undefeated champ. Ended Brocktober ruthlessly had him disco dancing.

Junior was 15-1 and on a streak consisting of

Werdum
Struve
Mirko
Gonzaga
Roy
Carwin

Aspinall Pav is a very good fight but isn't on that level

I think people on Sherdog have themselves so convinced that Pavlovich is the one to beat Jones that they already consider him some kind of uncrowned champ or all-time great. He might be on his way in a couple more fights, but he's certainly doesn't have the resume that Cain and JDS had.

Cain vs. JDS, no doubt.

Why does EVERYTHING have to be compared to something else in here?

The answer is obvious as to which was bigger. First Fox card, undisputed title. First attempted defence by Cain after beating Lesnar.

If you HAVE to compare something. At least pick something closer. There is no comparison here.
Then thank you. That's your answer.

Little hater

Aspinall Pav for me. Which is more high level... Eh... Pretty similar I'd say. Just different styles. Though Aspinall seems the most well rounded and in that way more skilled than all the others.
Thanks for the honesty

Lol. No problem. I was live at the Cain Congo fight. Lol So I never bought into the invincible aura as much many others did. It was funny having read people talk on here about how Cain would simply maul Congo and then the reality IRL was as real as it gets!

Still great fighter obviously.

JDS/Cain but it was anticlimactic. They were clearly the two best HWs in the world with different styles.

I was happy JDS won but it was so quick, it felt unresolved.

Asp/aPav is an awesome fight though and one of the best fights that could be made at HW currently.

Cain and Junior were only head and shoulders above UFC HWs as Strikeforce merge didn't happen yet.

Plenty thought Reem was the best HW in MMA in 2011/12 when Cain/Junior were UFC champ. Werdum after dethroning Fedor of his reign too but lost to Reem and also Junior loss years before. They were easily top 4.

Then after Strikeforce merge we saw Reem KO Junior and Werdum drop, nearly KO and then choke out Cain.

To be fair JDS had KOed Werdum prior to this and with Werdum losing to Reem after beatign Fedor I think there was a decent case this was for the #1 HW spot even if they were not "head and shoulders" better.

I feel like the difference is these days there are so few really elite HW's we don't see fighters tested much before title shots, its basically matches against guys who would have bene mid level 10-15 years ago.

cain jds build up was insane
barely comparable

Dumb question.
Cain vs JDS. No argument.

Cain Vs Jds
But this is still really good
Cain vs JDS felt like the undisputed 2 best guys in the world at the time. Head and shoulders above everybody else.

Aspinall vs Pavlovich is an amazing fight but it feels like a fight between two guys with the potential to be great.

Cain vs JDS was a fight between two guys that already were great, JDS had murked the who's who of HW on his run to the belt and Cain was a generational talent that felt like the future GOAT at the time.
Well it's because have we even seen more of these 2 first before we can even judge? that's a dumb thread, just to have all you casuals shit on 2 guys who have the potential to reach HW greatness, also the HW's of 2020 could be better than of the 2010's and probably can be more better for years to come.

Not fan of the TS, but this was no dumb thread, good thread.
