Media Paul Craig moving down to MW

Its easier to move around and be competitive at the smaller weights. I think 205 to 185 is one of the most difficult changes in divisions as its 20lbs vs 10lbs for the lighter weight classes

Yea I tend to agree. A few of the very best have done it but I can’t think of a guy in this situation moving down and faring well.

I assume these tests are just saying you can make 185? This screams disaster

I'm guessing he tested doing a weight cut for middleweight similar to how Hooker did last year before deciding to drop down to featherweight.
No shit sherlock. Thought they tested his algebra.
I’m asking what are the teats specifically.

Ok chill out dude, no need for that and I see you didn't understand my original post so I'll add more details to help.

Dan did this after losing to Islam, he did a weight cut to 145 at the UFC PI and the help of their staff to see if he could still make it down to that weight. This was done in late 2021 and he later booked his featherweight return bout in March of 2022 against Arnold Allen.

So I'm guessing Paul is doing or did something similar.

Great addition to 185
Hope craig can shore up his defense and wrestling

Cool. His fights will look exactly the same.

Interesting news and great addition to an already stacked division.

That doesnt really answer my question.
That’s like if i asked you what u ordered to eat and your answer is “the same thing my cousin ordered once”.

either way i just googled and he names some of the tests in an interview. Cardiovascular levels, nutrition analysis, etc… appearantly, they just tell fighters if it’s healthy or achievable to go down a certain weight.

To do that he'd have to become fat. That is a sacrifice your average fighter isn't willing to make if they were HW wouldn't suck so bad.
He doesn't have to become fat. He already cuts weight to be at 205, he can come at 225 and be a heavyweight like Almeida is doing.

It sucks yhat there is such a big gap between weight classes.

Yes, both are submission specialists with a BJJ base and both are piss-poor strikers. But the fundamental difference is that Almeida is actually a very good wrestler for a BJJ guy, while Craig's offensive wrestling is a bit of a meme. The last guy he was able to consistently take down and hold down was the ghost of Shogun in their rematch.

Considering that even Jailton has shown slight bits of difficulty in getting the bigger boys down and keeping them down compared to the guys he fought at Light Heavyweight, what do you think that means for Craig's prospects trying to do the same? He has nowhere near the same takedown acumen, is older, slower, and physically weaker.

I'm not convinced that Middleweight will do anything for him, but at least it's a division with a fairly shallow talent pool and there's a chance that he could bully guys with his size and drag them to the mat in favorable match-ups.
