Pantoja vs. Merab Makes a lot of sense at the moment

Both of them have no clear contenders other than rematches that people aren't excited about. I think if you match these guys up, it gives each of their divisions time to put forward a new contender, which both of their divisions desperately need.

Would you guys be into this match up? if not, why not?

Not to be a dick, but that might be the least appealing super fight I've ever heard suggested.

Merab not only defeats Pantoja easily if they're both 135ers, but the fact Pantoja is a flyweight kinda makes it worse.

Literally don't see the point.

It's Volk-Makhachev all over again, but less intriguing. Best you can hope for is a competitive defeat for Pantoja, but it's probably a shut out.

The least appealing super fight between those two is more appealing to me than those two rematching the contenders they already beat, or in pantoja's case, the contenders he already beat multiple times.

Pantoja's struggling for opponents for sure. The flyweight division has been booked appallingly, but I can only assume the complete lack of focus is more a board of directors issue than a Sean Shelby issue.

I digress.

Just give me fresh fights for now. Both divisions have booked themselves into a corner, so Merab vs Mario and Pantoja vs Almabayev are fine. I can deal with Merab vs Yan II for now, too, which is the more likely fight.

Almabayev is fighting Erceg, but I guess if he wins they can fight in like 6 months. Also, there's no way on earth Mario is getting the next title shot, and I have no idea how Mario vs. Merab seems more exciting than pantoja vs. Merab to you, but to each his own.

I agree Mario isn't getting the title shot given the backlash to his Aldo fight, but outside of Merab-Yan II, that's the best they've got.

And both are better than Merab-Pantoja because I just don't think that's an interesting fight - and the additional downside is it fucks the flyweight division if/when Pantoja loses.
