Paddy is Homer Simpson

I guess if you’re going to take damage and gut it out, a title fight (interim or otherwise) is where you’d want to spend your brain cells. Where the stakes are highest. I don’t think Paddy has been in too many wars like that, at least not in the UFC.

Someone else posted this, but I’ll paraphrase it because they nailed it; Paddy ain’t beating Olives, Max, Arman, or Ilia at this point in time. Olives and Max are aging though, and who knows how long Ilia sticks around. Paddy could realistically occupy space in the top 3 at LW for a long time. He likely will fight for a title again.
Paddy showed no defense and minimal offense against Gaethje, just a chin. Paddy's not beating Justin at this time either. He might beat someone else in the top 10, but he'd be a 2-to-1 longshot at best in reality, if not on the betting lines, in any given such fight. In the 11-15 range I'd guess Paddy averages out as even money if you include Chandler, a moderate dog otherwise. Admittedly I'm more skeptical than most about Paddy, but any argument that he's better than borderline top-ten is not a serious argument. He's not finishing a top-level fighter with strikes, he's not taking down anyone with solid takedown defense, and he's absorbing a shit-ton of damage against anyone capable of dealing. Paddy is capable of taking advantage of many of the holes in the games of smaller, non-elite fighters so long as he doesn't get punched too hard first, so he has an important place on the roster, but he's never, ever going to be a top-three fighter.

Skillwise he looked like what he's been looking like.

His toughness took him so far though. The guy is tough as shit. And he did rattle Justin multiple times. If he can do that, he can still give some other guys problems. It's not just his chin but his willingness to throw back in the pocket when he is hurt.

But he can only go so far as is. He is not good at taking people down, and thats the only way he can really close the deal against the top guys. He also needs to keep from getting put against the cage as much as possible. Justin almost had him out of there really early.

Paddy was always carried by his physical traits, I’m glad people finally see it.

Being bigger and stronger than everyone in the division also allows him to eat shots from most guys at LW. Thats what made the possible Topuria fight interesting, because Topuria has enough power to sleep him.

Hey the aforementioned guys will age out before him and here’s what’s left:

BSD is probably the only 6-10 I’d comfortably pick against him. Gamrot has no fire power. Paddy could grapple Fiz and Hooker. Moicano…well…yea. I’m not saying that Paddy ain’t limited, but LW ain’t quite as stacked as it has been in the past. Max, JG, and Olives are all in the twilight of their careers. Paddy lost, but Justin for sure didn’t look his best. Maybe staph, maybe age, or both. Rematch a year from now could look totally different. Plus, Paddy is getting the promotional push. favorable matchmaking goes a long way. Sorry sherbro, but the lad is here for the foreseeable future.
