P4P means, best no matter the weight class right?

Wrong. P4P means that if all fighters were the same size who is the best. If MM and JJ were both 185 lbs for example with all the same skills they have now who wins. And you are right that Jones beats the entire top 10 Fly Weights.....at the same time! LOL
That's entirely untrue. 125 lbers can do things that a heavyweight just cannot do because of the differences in speed. If Mighty Mouse moved like he does at 125 while at Heavyweight, then he would be a super soldier like Captain America and no heavyweight could defeat him. Similarly, if Mark Hunt had the same power he has at Heavyweight while at Flyweight, he would be knocking dude's out with jabs. P4P is a measure of skill by looking at a fighter's success against quality opposition within their own weight class, which is how they determine their skill level via a legitimate metric. The quality of said opposition is determined by their records against other top competitors.

It's why I hate when Rogan obsesses over Mighty Mouse; it's a lot easier to have that speed and technicality at 125 when you don't have to worry about being knocked out in every exchange like a heavyweight, especially when you're fighting a tiny talent pool.

To me it means who should I try and fight like.

P4p means different things

Anyone else gets so mad that you want to punch a puppy in the face whenever someone thinks they know what p4p means when they are completely wrong and feels they have to make a thread about it?

If you had people all around you arguing whether Spiderman could beat Wolverine ad nauseum, wouldn't you tell them to just stop at some point?

Spiderman vs Wolverine was one of my favorite comics when I was a kid because of the great story and writing but serious discussions about it would get annoying as hell for me.

That's why I chime in on P4P when people seem to be taking it super seriously. It's comic book level fiction.

Tough to say.

Spiderman can keep Wolverine at bay, but Wolverine is a motherfucker who keeps coming and coming.

There is much more talent at the upper weight classes.

Nope. Not even close. Not even close to close.

The average American/Brazilian man is 5'9.5", around the average size for LW, so the talent pool is biggest at 155. 145 is next, then 170 close behind.

Once you get to 185 and up you're looking at some small-as-fuck talent pools, getting smaller as the weight limit gets higher, especially in MMA where the talent is what's left over once the big money sports have taken the best 2,000 or so specimens.

El DeBarge, p4p best falsetto.

Heavyweight is also a tiny talent pool. 205 is shallow as fuck too.

The UFC had something like 32 HWs and 30 LHWs last time I looked. And around 25 at 125.

Meanwhile LW has over a hundred and FW and WW up around 70 or 80.

What if you mention that FLW HAVE to fight differently than MWs and just come to terms with the fact that there is not a direct enough correlation to even make sense for comparison anymore?

It's meaningless. I would love to see it go into the same grave as predictions of split decisions.

Edit: BTW, not attacking you at all ... You are 100% right. Just using your statement as a springboard.

Split prediction is basically the MMA speak for a draw, seeing draws are basically forbidden.

Thats not what P4P means. You are basically saying that Jon Jones is a better P4P fighter than MM because heads up Jones would win. P4P means Pound for Pound as in evening out the weight of each fighter. You are simply discussing who is the better overall fighter and calling it P4P but that's not what it is. If someone call MMA boxing they are wrong. There is boxing involved but that doesn't make them right.

TS was probably P4P the fastest Sherdogger to abandon his own thread once he realized he didn't know wtf he was talking about.

I think middle weight is the cut off for being considered P4P in MMA. Pound for pound, Jones murders anyone at flyweight. Pound for pound means you should be able to take on anyone in the world. Lets toss MM in the ring with Fedor and see how he fairs. I am not claiming Jones would beat Fedor but its just goofy thinking MM would in with Fedor, Cain, Overeem and would come out with his hand held.

MM is great, but I give him the Rhonda effect. Hes fighting a smaller talent pool and looking amazing. While we are it lets throw Adrian Peterson into the NCAA and watch him run all over the college students. Fact is the talent pool for the smaller guys and women in MMA is shallow. There is much more talent at the upper weight classes. There are more 135 pound men "athletes lol" playing League of Legends on ESPN than 135 skilled fighters.

Its not a bash thread, I enjoy MM. Ive watched him stream games and hes entertaining, but saying he ranks higher than Jones is silly.
You can make the argument that 125 is a small talent pool and that's valid. But your definition is P4P is 100% wrong, it means how you do at your weight class compared to to how people of different sizes do at their weight classes.
