News Ozzy has passed.

You can put two and two together and figure out it was them. Months ago Sharon Osbourne announced that one of the bands from back to the beginning was removed from the lineup for wanting money.

The only bands that was missing from the original lineup announcement were Soundgarden and Mammoth. Wolfgang as well has Van Halen himself have always been close to the Osbournes so we can rule out Mammoth

Soundgarden was invited to perform at Black Sabbath's "Back to the Beginning" farewell concert but were unable to participate due to scheduling conflicts. The surviving members, Kim Thayil, Ben Shepherd, and Matt Cameron, confirmed they received an invitation from the show's musical director, Tom Morello, but were forced to decline due to prior commitments. They acknowledged the invitation and expressed their respect for Black Sabbath in a social media post according to Blunt Magazine.

Their official statement won't address this obviously, there was speculation that it could have been Megadeth but Kelly Osbourne confirmed that it wasn't them.

Here is news about the soundgarden thing https://blabbermouth.net/news/membe...cornell-with-king-ultramega-single-rusty-cage

Note in neither instance of Soundgarden are they actually playing under the name Soundgarden but its still the same music
I assume you've read Wolfgang's thoughts about this?

Going to need to see some evidence here. the "new" lead singer of AIC has been the "new" lead singer for fucking years and want a punch up about Mastodon? I'm your girl.
What does punch up about Mastodon even mean ? If that means talk shit about I am not doing that, but if I were to I would say that they started shitting the bed after Crack the Skye more and more with each new album.
Absolute bollocks.
Nope, my actual source of information here is industry group chats I am in but I am not sharing those, but there is enough public information out there to easily figure out what happened.

If you did, you'd know what sensationalist rubbish it was. And you'd know Mastodon the same.
Quit reading gossip mags.

I literally just said I got this info from industry group chats, meaning people who work with and work for the bands (roadies) you can believe what you choose.I work in the music industry in several roles. I am just trying to give some interesting information if you want to freak out and be a bitch then I won't share anything further.

I'm a Mustaine fanboy but I'm not blinkered, he just never got over the Metallica thing. That said I think that's why he's still driven, they've had a very consistent post 2000s discography (other than Supercollider), even got another one coming up. I saw them twice in 2023, Dave's voice is even more fucked than usual, his solos are getting sloppy too, dude can still riff though.

Someone who is mentioned constantly with Metallica's early years, but never mentioned with Dave's firing... Is Cliff Burton... Who Dave mentioned he still considered his friend until his death.

Cliff was never interviewed or gave comment about his perspective of Mustaine's firing... But it speaks volumes that he chose to stay with James & Lars rather than leave with Dave.

Even leaving Cliff out of the equation it's quite obvious that Metallica wouldn't have survived with three alpha males in the group. It's actually quite shocking its lasted four decades with James and Lars butting heads as much as they have.

If Dave wasn't fired shortly before recording Kill, he would have eventually left the group over writing issues.

Yeah I never heard what Cliff said about the sacking, Dave said in his book they were quite close. I think they used to car pool for practice cause they lived near each other, smoking weed and listening to Lynyrd Skynyrd on the way etc. Dave wrote "In my darkest hour" after Cliff died when he went to score heroin apparently.

And Kirk fits Metallica way more than Dave did really for what they ended up being, they needed a yes-man for lead, as you say James and Lars would have butted heads enough. Though i did love the 30 year anniversary they did with Dave playing with the band again, his guitar tone hasn't changed so much over the years, sounded closer to the Kill Em All version of the band for sure.

What's your opinion of Tank the Tech?

Some theory crafting I read online indicates that Cliff dying was the best thing to happen to Metallica. He was inclined to do more melodic stuff (Call of Ktulu, Orion) hinting about shifting to prog.

Bill and I got tattooed by the same artist. His Star Wars bounty hunter... my left arm sleeve. Kinda cool. Love Mastodon. Saw them on the first show of this latest tour.

That's my guess. I looked into it after the first mention of it here. There were articles from the last few weeks, talking about a 2007 People's magazine interview where Sharon discussed it, and then in a 2023 podcast with Jack where he asked her about it, and she stated that it was still the plan. I know people will point things saying that he didn't die in Switzerland, but it's not like rich people can't have documents doctored.
Seeing Ghost tonight

I am still gutted about Ozzy. I have been doing some heavy Sabbath all week. They were so ahead of their time, and Bill Ward is so under rated. Every song was juicy as fuck. I know a lot of my pain is due to nostalgia....we will lose all out heroes at some point. Just sad.

Seeing Ghost tonight
Saw them for the second time a few weeks ago. One of the best shows out there today. So much fun. My favorite current band

He's a good dude, two of the bands I worked with in the past appeared on his channel. I honestly don't really watch his content, but I get why he does what he does. Showing the public a side they don't get to see, I would appreciate more technical stuff but I get nobody would watch that.

Thats awesome, Bill is star wars nerd for sure.

Nice, good to know. I would like more tech content too but agree this doesn't play to his audience I guess.

Yeah I never heard what Cliff said about the sacking,
No one has.
Apparently he agreed with James & Lars, or didn't have such a large objection to the firing to quit with Dave and form MegaDeth with him.

That's a great alternate history theory of what could have happened.

That's another issue why I don't think Dave would have lasted in Metallica.
His heroine habit.

Kirk absolutely isn't an Alpha Male.
I think James recently mentioned a great analogy - He and Lars are in the front of the vehicle and fighting over who gets to drive, with Kirk and Rob in the back seat enjoying the ride.

But for those who might get the impression I'm endlessly defending James & Lars, I absolutely criticize them for their treatment of Jason over 14 years in the band. They never truly respected him although he was a perfect bassist for them besides Cliff, and I would argue for their live performances he surpasses Cliff. Very few can match James's energy onstage and supply perfect backup vocals.

Best example, off the top of my head -

You're probably right tbh as hard as that is to admit. Cliff, great bassist, played with the fingers, heaps of energy live, Jason was great at working the crowd, backup vocals plus a killer bass player, no doubt he provided a lot live (only saw him once in Metallica)
