Throwback Overeem destroying Pavlovich

It was obviously a strategy to catch him coming in. The fact that he dropped him with it shows that it was at least a good fuckin idea. Once Miocic was hip to it,he couldnt surprise him again.

Lol @ you talking about "assessment" when you cant even figure out Overeem's gameplan which was obvious. You just pretend that he was terrified and ran away as soon as the bell rung. Lmao Sure.

Overeem felt a tap, that's why his gameplan went out the window.

Pav has obviously gotten better since then but I still don't see how people don't think Jon could employ a strategy like this and beat him. Pav is strong and hits hard but he loses to anyone faster, more explosive or has a higher fight iq than him like Gane, Francis, Jones or Aspinal.

That was Sergei's first fight in the UFC against a guy who kind of had his back against the cage coming off 2 KO/TKO losses. That guy being Overeem, who has/had been in there against the best in the world. Sergei's lack of knowledge on the ground showed big time, he didn't even know what to do and could not get up. Overeem simply capitalized and finished in fashion.

He got finished by Econoreem, not the best version of Overeem.

To be honest I feel the biggest issue for Sergei in that fight was mental, he looked overawed and passive compared to what we've seen since which was ideal for Reem.

Is there any heavyweight that can properly get off their back when grounded besides Derrick Lewis?

Cro Cop too

I consider them different cases. I think we got to see prime Overeem in the UFC, whereas CroCop had already peaked when he made it there. Pride CroCop was at least as good as Overeem, for certain.

This got me back to hoping the Reem would make another run at the title. Started his streak. Alas, it still was not to be.

That finish is brutal, he’s out from the first clean shot on the ground and then eats like 8-9 more.

Overeem had some really good technique in a lot of spots, but never seen him use such destructive GnP before.
He used it a few more times since, especially that brutal GnP of Sakai

Stipe got caught, but he chased the cowardly Overeem all over the ring, KOing him on the mat.

Conversely, Overeem was on the hunt for Pavlovich, chasing him down, KOing Pavlovich on the mat.

Conclusion: Overeem feared Stipe, had no fear of Pavlovich.
"cowardly" my ass.
Careful using that word with anyone that steps in the cage for a living.
