Stipe destroying Overeem ...

Smashing down a Pav....

Getting hungry now.

That's probably how Ubereem's team fed him his horse meat.

He never won it...he won the Open Weight GP by beating a much smaller LHW in the final.Big deal lol
Yes,he never won it. So when people say who is the best guy who didnt win the HW title, and they say Mirko, thats wtf they mean. Nog won it. Fedor won it,Mirko didnt, but he was the next best guy after them.

That doesn't make sense in the context as Overeem was Strikeforce HW champ. It's referring to UFC only.

No one counts strikeforce as a belt that means anything. The HW belt esp.

As a fellow Dutchman, how is Reem seen over there? Is he like a hero to locals or something? Dude is a hero to Frankville
Among combat sports fans Overeem is very well respected and I think a lot of regular Dutchies know him aswell, but definitely not everyone in our country.
I feel like he’s getting embraced by (hardcore) combat sports fans here, but imo there’s no such thing in the Netherlands where athletes are “national-heroes” like for example in Morocco or Brazil. Unfortunately Dutchies ain’t like that so much (though I’m a huge fan myself!).

For example when Peter Aerts won the K-1 WGP back in the day almosy no one knew about it, while at the same time he couldn’t walk across the streets in Japan without getting recognized. I’m glad times have changed and athletes get more love around here, but I feel like it’s still not on the same level as in other countries.

@Iroh what do you think?

Yeah, I agree. Though in Aerts' time combat sports in general just wasn't big here, at all. Nowadays it's much more popular, also because MMA in general is just bigger, and kickboxing is a lot more popular too. So Overeem definitely had more mainstream exposure for his more recent fights, than Aerts ever had.

But overall, I wouldn't say Overeem is one of the most well known athletes, here. Still he will get recognized a bunch, if he crosses the street I'd imagine. So it's not like he is unknown or not beloved, either.

Rico is a different story though. I think he would fit the bill more of a national hero. Rico also promotes himself a lot more though, here in the Netherlands.

That win aged very well especially considering Reem was way past his best at that point.

Peak Ubereem is a top 5 all time H2H HW imo. Remember when JDS stopped Cain in the first round and Reem destroyed Brock within like a month of each other. I was so fucking hyped for Reem/JDS but we never got it until years later when it was nowhere near as interesting. Reem/Carwin would have been a fun match up of absolute monsters too.

I think we can agree that Max Verstappen currently is the biggest hero in NL;)

Strikeforce arguably had the best heavyweights at that point
So what? reem won it and bounced for two yrs,cos the title didnt mean dick. Then he defended it against brett rogers. Fantastic.

It was obviously a strategy to catch him coming in. The fact that he dropped him with it shows that it was at least a good fuckin idea. Once Miocic was hip to it,he couldnt surprise him again.

Lol @ you talking about "assessment" when you cant even figure out Overeem's gameplan which was obvious. You just pretend that he was terrified and ran away as soon as the bell rung. Lmao Sure.

This. Overeem likely knew he was going to have a real hard time getting hands on a guy like Stipe, and Stipes boxing was too good to just stay at the end of his punches. Catching him rushing in pursuit was a decent, if slightly comical strategy. Dude has brawled it out with so many monsters, calling him a coward is borderline offensive to me lol.
