***Not including Jon Jones because he's been considered one of the greatest if not the greatest for over a decade***

I love Fedor and all and I think he's currently the greatest, but I wouldn't mind seeing Chimaev take over that mantle.

How about you guys?

Or there is no one?

Feel free to suggest names.

Illa, Dricus, Poatan in that order.

I feel like Poatan is already a folk legend type of fighter. When he's retired he'll be remembered and adored by the fans ala chuck liddel

Picking Poatan for a couple reasons but the biggest being timeline. After March 5th he could have his 5th title defense. He has had the belt for a year and a half.

Jones (the only active candidate) got his paper title 4-5 months earlier and has managed 1 defense with nothing booked for the future and 50/50 on retirement.

To watch Alex catch up to the GOAT's in lass than half the time.... that is something I would love to see.

Pereira or Khamzat. Probably Pereira more because he's been consistent and active. Either guy potentially could be the first 3 division champ. Both guys put it all out when they fight.

Would love Poatan to become the best ever,
need a good run as HW champion after LHW though.

trying to pick one and can't. dunno, there was some dynamic quality to GSP, BJ, etc that i can't fnd in the new guys. probably just nostalgia.

Pereira will never be a GOAT, he’s not even top 5 all time in his division. He’s 37 and will probably lose his next fight. UFC really milked him by feeding him strikers.

Only Shavkat has the potential.
that said...
Khabib GOAT

Hate to break it to all the Poatan slurpers, but the dude is 37, only has twelve career wins, has been finished twice and STILL has not faced a grappler in the UFC.
He's already mathematically eliminated from contention. Get real.

Based on personality and likeability, definitely Volk. I think the argument can be made about being the best 145er of all time. But actual MMA fighter? Not quite.

Based on aura, Poatan. But ripping through a shallow division using only one area of MMA doesn't quite achieve that IMO.

Based on sheer heart, relentlessness and aggression, Shavkat. But that style makes it hard not to eventually take losses, and not always the most understandable ones.

Topuria's been phenomenal thus far, but it's early in his title reign.

Khamzat needs to fight more often, and when he does, it can't be a last-minute opponent change in half those fights.

Nemkov is fantastic, but let's get him to compete in the UFC before including his name in that discussion.

I really like Usman Nurmagomedov, but again, same argument as Nemkov here.

That leaves us with Makhachev, a solid and obvious pick among all those names, but also a guy whose title defenses include a few that were against last-minute opponents.

I don't see anyone on this list who could realistically dethrone GSP as the GOAT. Or Jon Jones.

DDP because he's like a Merry Melodies MMA parody come to life, but all he does is win.
