International On the first day without X, many Brazilians say they feel disconnected from the world

Brazil: "You must ban Nazis and homophobes if they say Nazi and homophobic sh*t according to our laws or we wont allow your business in our Country"

Eloy: "How dare you!! What an assault on teh freeze peach!! Jail these judges immediately!! I will not comply, you tyrants!!"

Erdogan: "Hey Bro, yeah we want our political opposition silenced so we can further our fascism and hold onto power."

Eloy: "Say less. Yo sorry my freeze peach people. Whaddya want me to do? They're the Government and if I dont comply they might get upset. My hands are tied."
I agree that Musk is hardly some free speech champion, he's willing to give into authoritarian government regulations so long as they don't affect right wing accounts and is happy to suppress left wing ones.

That said I think what the BR government is doing here is way too heavy handed

- Nobody will cut fuding from worlds second biggest meat productor because of twitter(really X?).

Foreign Affairs isnt something that you take abrupts actions becuse of the moment. That's why Bolsonaro and Trump both sucked!

This is one of the greatest infographics around. The USA retaining its position as the #1 beef producer in the world is a national priority of the highest degree and order. Brazil is destroying and deforesting too much of the Amazon in order to keep pace.

Why should it be a national priority of the highest order? I understand certain strategic sectors like defense and energy but beef?

- Brazil isnt trying to compete with US. The enviromental destryoing is making the land used before, unusable in the future.

Basically every couple of years, they have to go to another place because of this.

Musk is very pro free speech.
Only if he likes your speech but otherwise he's not much of a fan as evidenced by the fact that he suspends people he doesn't like such as the account that track his plane. Sometimes he reverses his political bans but it shows where his loyalties lie. If anything Twitter is less free and transparent under his leadership.

It's definitely A LOT more free. Transparent is debatable because the old Twitter was pretty damn transparent with their censorship and shadow banning.

the biggest tragedy of the decade is the loss of the 'Daily Kate Bush' account

Its a lot more free for right wingers but not so much for others.

Pretty messed up they used starlink to extort musk. Dude looks like a vampire with aids too.

Free speech doesn't apply to social media anyway. When Musk bought Twitter he bought the right to ban the accounts of the journalists who said that paying for the blue check marks was a stupid idea or the account of the reporter who posted an interview with the hacker that compromised Matt Walsh's twitter account.
If you're going to establish rights concerning internet access, the first step should be to treat internet access as a utility, not the "right" to shit post on social media.

I don't think social media moderation is a free speech issue either but I also can't accept this misleading narrative that Elon has made Twitter freer and more transparent when the opposite seems to be the case.

They just mean Musk changed twitters hate speech policy to allow posting stuff they agree with.

Based on what? X is a mega-corporation, no longer publicly traded, in the hands of an obvious right wing megalomaniac who has supported coups for resources, and is currently assisting the push for fascism here, and the actions in question are against supporters of Bolsonaro, who also tried to hold onto power after losing an election.

Also Telegram and WhatsApp have already been through this and did what was needed to comply with Brazilian law and stay in operation.

Why do you suppose the judge wanted their orders for the removal of those accounts kept secret if
they were acting within any established law? They specifically told X not to give a reason for removal.

Brazil “law” is purely at the whim of de Moraes. Once again, so called “liberals” are applauding this merely because they support censorship of right wingers and because they think it humiliates Elon Musk. Not because they don’t think Brazil is clearly fading into authoritarianism.

I also notice nobody seems to bat an eye over Lula being close to every dictator in the world. If he identified as right wing, being deferent to Putin, Xi, Maduro, and Cuba would earn them the name of “wannabe dictator” or flat out authoritarian.

Also, why is nobody talking about the clearly illegal freezing and seizure of SpaceX assets in Brazil?

Just goes to show, the vast majority of people will support hard authoritarianism when they think their ideals are what is being enforced. Covid was the clear example of that. The left were so eager to accept that life as the “new normal” and many still wear the fact that they haven’t let go of their authoritarian new normal on their face every day.

About 5 years ago my buddy did his engagement announcement at one of those Brazil steakhouse joints. It was like 125 bucks for all the meat plus like a vegetable/salad/sides bar. Told my wife I am getting my monies worth and only eating meat. They brought various meat out on swords and you flipped up your card and you got more meat. First time in my life I had meat sweats, which happens when you eat too much steak.you just start sweating. All the meat products were good. They had chicken, sausages and pork but I only ate beef that day
