News On the Day of His Retirement Jon Jones Charged with Fleeing the Scene of an Accident in Albuquerque, NM (Update W/ Cam Footage).

He didn't fight Aspinall because he's old, fat and slow now, and doesn't want a legit loss on his record.

Simple as.
Are you intentionally overlooking the part where beating up Tom does absolutely nothing for his legacy and it wouldn’t help the UFC either. If he won then retires it’s a much worse scenario for the UFC or did you overlook that part? Tom is just rightful Number 1 challenger in a piss poor division. He isn’t some dude with a legacy or that cleaned out the division. Since it’s simple as why overlook the simple facts? In your head he’s old and slow and doesn’t want to lose. Even if true not a soul on earth in his shoes would want that fight especially if you already had the belt. Probably not even the fight he would get hyped over. Jones doesn’t owe anyone a damn thing. Defend or retire and he chose retire. Simple as

Why would Francis matter? He just headlined an event that cost way less than a UFC ppv and did under 10k buys.

I think that has more to do with no one giving a shit about PFL...plus that was an oversears card started early in the afternoon, didn't it?

It isn't really about PPV buys anymore anyway...at least not under the ESPN deal...UFC just cares about selling out venues, site fees, and other revenue streams.

Relatively speaking, in this new reality, Aspinall-Francis would do relatively well if promoted well and supported by a decent card...certainly better than with Aspinall fighting anyone else on the roster (other than Alex).

Nothing for his legacy? Beating Tom makes his HW run actually legit considering Tom has already basically cleaned the division outside of Gane who ducked Aspinall for years. Jones beating Stipe will have about as much impact on his legacy as Tito beating Chuck.

You're also overlooking the fact that Dana offered Jon the money he asked for, which would've presumably given him by far his biggest payday of his career.

Everybody knows Jones is old, fat and slow, and would very likely lose this fight. Apparently Jones did too. Too bad he didn't retire and vacate immediately after the Gane fight.

Aspinall vs Gane in England or France would sell out a huge arena the same as Aspinall vs Ngannou would.

I'd be absolutely fine with them bringing Francis back for a fight with Tom. The UFC just doesn't need it. It won't move the needle in any sort of huge way.

In New Mexico, common law marriage isn't recognized.

His fiance, or whoever, would get nothing but the child support.
I wonder... to step back from Jon specifically, will we see more athletes just refuse to marry their partner for the express purpose of making sure they don't wind up paying out in a divorce?

And Im curious (probably will never know) was Jon's chick smart enough to put some stuff in her name if she had any access to comingled funds?
House. Business

Tom Aspinall has not cleared out the division. He can fight Gane and Almeida. I have absolutely no clue if Jones was slow being as Gane was over quickly and he beat up Stipe with relative ease. The day anyone says hey I don’t want to fight I’m tired of this shit after 15 years I respect it. Truthfully Jones resume and highlights and reign had him named greatest by most before his HW move. He has GOAT LHW resume. He moved up got the belt and anything else unless a super fight WHICH TOM IS NOT does absolutely nothing for a resume like that. Tom could get beat up his next fight and become the new HW Reyes. It’s completely irrelevant to Jones career as Tom has never even headlined a PPV. His ONLY career resume casual fans know about is Jones didn’t fight him. It basically doesn’t mean anything for Jones and if he won it hurts the UFC rebuilding post Jones

The UFC has left like 5 stars in post-Jones UFC and that number will start to dwindle even further imo as Mackhachev soon after 3 fights will retire and Adesanya may also have just 1 fight left in him and the same with Poatan he has 1 fight left in him.

Instagram followers:

1.Islam Machhachev: 10.4 million (3 fights left)
2 Jon Jones: 9.7 million (Retired fighter)
3. Khamzat Chimaev: 9.7 million
4. Ilia Topuria: 8.6 million
5. Izzy Adesanya: 8.5 million (On his way out and probably 1 fight left)
6. Alex Poatan: 7 million (On his way out and probably 1 fight left)

That leaves us with Chimaev and Topuria as the only bonafide stars for the next half decade. The best case scenario for the UFC is Chimaev to become a dominant champ and they could probably for the first have a star that could reach 30-40-50 million followers that is Khabib-Conor esque.

Example if Topuria gets KO´ed by Oliveria and DDP decisions Chimaev the UFC is kinda of screwed, they will enter a slum period before new stars arrive but new stars can´t come without talent. You need talent that is ahead of the competition in order to create stars naturally.

A potential star is Tom Aspinall if he starts trashing the HW division he will become a huge star and face of the UFC but the HW is unpredictable at the minute

1) He's a sociopath, drug user and a fellon, how does that work out for ex fighters who no longer have a sense of purpose?

2) Jon has warranted a lot of discussion for his ducking over the last few years, but he never really has been a superstar outside the cage has he? To put things in perspective Islam Makhachev has more instagram followers than him.

3) Does he have the personality, temperment or looks to remain relevant? (He looks terrible and is aging horrendously for a relatively young man) and does his time away from the spotlight draw him back to the sport when someone he thinks he can beat holds the title? I just don't see him being stable enough to happily ride off into the sunset.

Can we kindly fuck off with the Jones threads and talk about relevant fighters that actually compete?

I predict drug fueled benders and then prison. Hopefully he doesn’t kill somebody along the way.

I agree they will need fighters who are ahead of the competition and dominant Champs..

WW is kinda lost at minute don´t see anyone being ahead there it seems like they are all at the same level in the WW division.

In the MW division if Chimaev beats DDP he could definitely become a dominant champ he will have in line Imavov, Caio, De Ridder etc etc fighters he should be able to beat and fighters he probably has gotten already better of in training. Who else is a contender at MW currently Paul Allen and Dolidze etc etc no disrespect to any of them but Chimaev should be able to beat all of them on paper.

LW is questionable unless Topuria smashes everyone but i don´t think he will remain there i think he moves up to WW.

LHW is also questionable don´t see ank making a dynasty here as he has few fights left in him.

HW is a mess etc etc
