O'Malley deserves a better coach

I said it before and I said it in Saturdays PBP thread, O'Malley's coach is not a real coach. He's an obvious hanger on yes man (ike for real).

Sadly, that's the majority of MMA coaches. Hangers on, and suspect groomers (if they're coaching a woman).

GSP would actually reach out to legit coaches from others sports like Freddie Roach to bring into his camps.

I think he's a decent coach, but what probably is hurting him the most is this wannabe celebrity shit. Just coach, nobody gives a fuck about your opinion, or point of view, or whatever. just coach.

Great idea, that's what O'Malley's should do too. Stop with the snake oil shit (not jerking off, no weed) and branch out. He can still keep his little red headed butt buddy as his sidekick.

MMA fighters need to get rid of the loyalty bullshit with their coaches & do what's best for them.

There are several examples of fighters levelling up after changing camps, Merab himself left Longo & went to Jon Wood & he's now finishing fights. Aljo left Longo aswell & went to nicksick & levelled up, I know both of them still have Longo in the corner but it's mostly so the old man doesn't get hurt, Longo doesn't really do anything with them anymore, he's usually aloof when anik asks him about Merab or Aljos training camps on their podcast.

TJ levelled up after leaving Alpha Male & Islams striking got really better once he started relying on his Olympic Silver Medalist Taekwondo coach instead of Javier, tbh to Javier he himself says that he's not the head coach anymore.

I thought Tim Welch was kidding when he said pre-fight that they were going to be patient in the fight this time & try to win rounds, holyshit he wasn't kidding & what a dumb plan for someone like Merab.

O'Malley spent almost all of Rd 1 and 2 backing up & running away from Merab & Tim kept telling Sean how great he was doing, Merabs chin is his one weakness and you decide to completely ignore that and backaway and try to slow him down with really weak body work.

How can a coach ask him fighter to abandon his own strength which is koing people and try to play the points game just because the judges gave you two rds in the first fight.

Hope O'Malley brings in another coach in his team because he is a very talented fighter, really want him to see rematch Yan or fight Umar.

Doesn't O'Malley train at The Lab? Dude has a seriously amazing stable of dudes around his size to work with and it's a huge gym with a lot of resources. A good roster of coaches not just the ginger guy.

It's a stylistic mismatch. It's really hard to overcome the wrestler vs striker matchup. You need to dedicate time wrestling/grappling. I think he went into the rematch rather fast especially after the injury.

I wonder who Merab will fight next. Corey or Yadong might be up. I think they will do better than Sean but they will drown in the championship rounds especially Yadong. Yadong is the one that deserves better coaches. He is so athletic but his team turned him into a basic ass boxer/wrestler.

No coach is going to make the difference between a SOM win or loss to Merab.

Sean started training at 17, Merab started training as a child. Sean is worth millions and one of the bigger names in MMA especially in the US, already wealthier than Merab will ever be. Sean got the easy path to stardom and a title because he was marketable. Merab got the long hard road due to where hed from and how he looks.

They aren't the same, Sean started too late, is too comfortable/doesn't want as bad as Merab. Sean's talented but he's not some freak to fill the gap that's there. Merabs ready to die in there, Sean will smoke a blunt on twitch while his wife swings with other men and he has 2 Lamborghinis in his driveway.

I'm glad we agree, lol.

So, judging from the responses in this thread, Tim is the ginger Edmond

i agree. go to a different gym where you aren't the 'star' and surrounded by yes men like tim welch.

i saw zero confidence from sean in that fight. always backing up.

there are plenty of strikers in the ufc that push forward and dont just sit back looking for a counter.

Time to test the waters at 145lbs, better weight cut, new matchups, new coaching maybe.

It's gonna be Corey. Corey does have a decent enough punchers chance, or rather, a knee or front kick chance.

His major problem was having his back against the cage. He was then just giving the takedown to Merab. I thought that be the first thing they would make sure he didn’t do

There's only so much a coach can do for them. I think the only mistake they made was accepting a rematch so soon. I mean yeah sure, fighting for a title shot guarantees you more money and a chance at the title but I really feel like it was pointless. Nothing fluke about his loss to Merab the first time around.

Is he going to stick around now? I agree with the people who say there's a good chance he moves up

Yeah, just a load of much bigger more powerful strikers who'll knock the absolute shit out of him, like Jean Silva 😁

I think Sean would rather take his chances against strikers, even hard hitters, than deal with the likes of Merab and Umar where he's totally out of his element.

He should take some time to build up some real weight and see how it goes. Worst case he can drop back down.

He will never go to 145, and would get fucked up badly if he did
