O'Malley by Knockout

Yeah, he should have been spamming those front body kicks way earlier.

It was sort of like with Alex against Ank, they were so preoccupied with the takedown threat that their striking offense took a backseat.

It's what Merab does. Nobody else can do it because it takes too much energy but when you have an endless gas tank...

"Yan stuffed 38 of 49 TD's against Merab!" That's awesome but...what did he do offensively himself? Nothing because all he was doing was defending TD'S and getting punched on the break.

He can win if he keeps Merab backing up, or basically fight at range with the high knee up the middle, long jabs and tip kicks to keep Merab away.

If Merab gets in close, it’s a wrap for Sean.
Im rooting for Omalley but I dont see him winning. Hope im wrong

I personally don’t enjoy that type of thing. I’m more into classical, pure boxing. But I can understand that others find it entertaining. Many on Sherdog seem to share your opinion. Sorry I couldn’t provide a more helpful response to your question. Have a nice day Sherbro!
Fixed that for you.

Also, the narrative surrounding the first fight is a weird one. Yea Merab won but it was not domination lol. He never threatened to finish a single time. Easy to score it 48-47.

Oddly the exact same thing happened with Merab in the Umar fight. People pretend like this guy is Khabib or something lol

I see a lot of the people just parroting themselves in this thread…

The UFC media team trying to make O’Malley some likeable underdog and not some dude they hand fed to the title is wild

I am not going to lie, it's weird when people write him off as someone who is only there because "he was hand-fed to the title." Dude, the guy is violent and has hurt every single opponent he has faced more than they have ever been hurt before (at least from what watching past fights of all the top contenders has revealed to me). Yan's eye, Chito's whole body, Merab's liver, and everyone else was knocked out. I have no way of proving this, but I bet the people I just mentioned are not looking forward to fighting him again because they were all severely messed up the first time they fought.

Merab can outgrapple him it wouldn't make your stance on his striking any less goober-ish. He's a great striker lol
He'd be in boxing if he was, goober.

He's decent. He couldn't put away walking punchbag moutinho so he isn't phenomenal or any other excessive superlative

Well not really, as striking is not just punching is it. Boxing is just punching.

He didn't say 'phenomenal puncher'.
It's mainly the punching part he excels at and boxing is THE striking sport we're phenomenal fighters make absurdcmoney.

He's decent. He' not phenomenal.

That 5th round definitely wasn't comfortable for Merab. He was hurt and in run mode.
If you win pretty much all the rounds it's comfortable (absurd judging score cards not withstanding).

He beat Yan and Aljo. The dude actually does have skill if you watch him fight.
The Yan decision was a robbery.

He beat Aljo fair and square.

Doesn't change the fact his title run was all down to Dana white privilege from "corpo UFC" (ironically enough for that other dude).

Hmm, so he had enough skill to rob Petr Yan. That's actually pretty fucking good too lol

Sean is a legit Top 5 any way u slice it

I can’t see him doing any worse than the first fight. I can definitely see him fucking up merab or it being a closer fight

Great is not excessive. If your contention is "there are literally no good strikers in MMA" lol more power to you. He beat the fuck out of Moutinho but the kid is tough idk what to tell you. There are plenty of examples of fights similar to that where a great striker didn't get a finish and just beat the fuck out of someone for 3 rounds. Its hardly a glaring knock and proof of wow holy shit this guy is merely a decent striker! He outstruck Yan. If O'Malley isn't the best striker in his division who is

I like O'Malley but this fight will probably look the same...Merab by decision.

Corpo UFC, o'malley "fighting the man". It was embarrassing nonsense
I get it now, you misunderstood or I wasn’t clear. The strategy of the UFC, for quite some time, has been to push its brand rather than individual fighters. There are many reasons for that (institutional shareholders, ESPN deal terms, sponsorship requirements, vacuums created by Ronda/Conor, etc.). That’s what “corpo” UFC means. The company has literally evolved from being a start-up to being a mid-size firm to being a large publicly-listed corporate (“corpo”). Nothing to do with fighting the man (??).

Many who have been around for more than a few years (me included) find the current UFC rather bland compared to what we experienced before. Fighters have less room for individuality (logos, side deals, etc.), by design. O’Malley and others like him add back some life into a sea of sameness. I know very little about his lifestyle and it doesn’t seem to be my cup of tea. But I still find it refreshing that he’s a little more colorful than most, as long as he’s actually one of the best at his weight class.

Ps. Thanks for reading my blog 😂

Nothing skillful about judges gifting you a decision

You are smart enough not to play the retarded Sherdog troll game
