Media Oliveira open to the idea of an interim title fight vs. Gaethje if Islam wants to move up to 170

Who wins a potential rematch?

Well, we know islam will not fight in march because of Ramadan, We know he wont fight in april either for the same reason, Probably can start training around the end of april, then he'll be ready to fight late may or june. If the LW title doesn't get defended in February, then it's may/june at the absolute earliest.

That's too long to not have a title picture, No top LW are going to want to fight.
And if they crown an interim champ in February, when would they be ready to actually defend it? June at the earliest, same as the actual LW title lol.

I feel like I’ve said this 1000 times, but here it is again: If the very first fight an interim champ has is to unify the belt, then you didn’t need an interim champ.

The point of an interim champ is to have someone to defend a title while the actual champ is out for an extended period of time, not to have some PPV main event placeholder fight.

Would rather fresh matchups for both but w.e. Let it be in Brazil this time. Oliveira had to go to Abu Dhabi for Islam, Gaethje's hometown for their first fight, Canada where he was 0-4 for Dariush.

He submitted Dustin with a standing RNC.
Which is his only standing sub and a typical to his normal style. I'm not saying it won't happen. I'm saying it's hard to do and unlikely even for Charles.

Reading that message I am guessing somebody misunderstood what Charles said and is selling us wolf tickets to get some shares by strange wording.

Islam usually fights around March/April. The only reason we would need an interim is if he will only fight in UAE now or he popped for PEDs. IF we end up with an interim, this stupid short notice Volk fight was even more ridiculous. You could have had Gamrot vs Islam in UAE and done Volk vs Islam in March, regardless of both fighters results in their title defences.

There is even a poll lol, unbeliveable. TS clearly has an agenda. IVLam's payroll manager got to him faster than IVlam choosing to fight a FW instead of a top 5 LW, impressive.

Wasteland this shit.

Justin has zero BJJ and is going to get subbed again.

Olivera doesn't need to wrestle to take him down. He can chain submissions off strikes and submit him standing.
Also, to say Gaethje has 0 bjj is inaccurate. He defended an arm bar and rear triangle from Charles while rocked. His issue is that, like most folk style guys, he is too comfortable exposing his back

Charles vs Islam in July than Justin vs the winner not that hard to do, or Justin in for Charles

It makes sense if Islam was promised a shot at 170. If Colby wins the belt then a fight with Islam is probably the biggest event that the UFC will have that year. We know that the UFC will do everything in its power to put on big spectacles and ignore the rankings entirely.

Colby doesn't take fights on short camps. Leon Edwards also takes longer camps and breaks. So if Islam is moving up to 170 he's going to be sitting out for probably 8-9 months from now at least before Colby or Leon will return. So the UFC will do an interim Lightweight fight with their two biggest names in the division to keep things exciting for the casual fans.

This is basically the UFC signalling that Islam is going for two belts.

Only if that is the case can they justify the interim. But I think it's a bit premature to make that fight considering Leon/Colby hasn't even happened yet and is more than a month away. Lots can change in that time frame.

It's hard to undo years of wrestling especially when you get rocked. It's the best way to get back to your feet, but guys like Charles and Aljo have really mastered jumping on that offence immediately and making it a very poor idea.

Its a criticism I've had of D1 guys for years. Khabib and other grapple heavy fighters capitalized on it too.

I think you forget there are payscales for title holders in both fight purses and in sponsorship dollars. It's just an excuse to pay the fighters more money.

Also if a champion can't return for june or whatever date you can always promote interim champs to full time champ, like they did with barao and whittaker.

Isn't it obvious by now that your boy does not want none of Islam? Before the fight he didn't want it. After the lost, he still doesn't want it. He still having wet dreams of Conor.

The olive fans acting like the UFC does not want to give him the title fight. Your boy simply does not want it so stop crying.

I give my back when I grapple/train MMA to stand up and it works, but obviously way different levels. It's impressive how easily these guys find the neck with MMA gloves on to be honest. It's actually beautiful to watch when guys have really mastered it because it's bloody hard.

For comparison Volk really did a great job of shutting Islam down from the same position in the first fight and even Usman defended really well vs Khamzat even though he was dominated in that first round.
