Old Movies You Actually Like

I just looked up Harvey. It sounds interesting. Is it creepy or just unusual?
Its funny, whimsical, and ridiculously charming with a mild dash of introspection.

Jimmy Stewart is fantastic and I almost guarantee you will smile throughout the entire film and likely quite a bit longer.

I quote Elwood P. Dowd daily.

The older movies are the good movies. Check out the highly regarded general classics. I personally like film noir and early sci-fi.

What're we using as the cutoff line to what's a classic movie and what's a modern movie? I think pre1970 would be a decent cutoff point.
I think that's fair. In a few years 1970 will have been half a century ago.

When I think of classic I don't just think old though. There are a lot of terrible old movies I have no interest in seeing, haha.

Public Enemy & Angels with Dirty Faces (James Cagney)

The invisible man (original version)

The Day The Earth Stood Still (original version)

War Of The Worlds (original version) both film and radio version.

Sorry to hurt your feelings, ese. I don't appreciate the unrealistic, soap opera style acting from back in the day.
just because you dont like them, doesnt mean all movies before the 70s were shit lol

You know it's an opinion, right? I understand that people like and appreciate them. People also enjoy "reality " tv, which is also shit...IMO.

but that was my point lol

you ended your original post as a statement not as an opinion... just clarifying

I love "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner." They had some heavy hitters in that movie. For the time that it was made, it was a big deal. A beautiful white woman bringing her black fiancée home to meet her parents? The build up to the reveal is great as well. The only thing the parents knew was that he was a successful doctor, that's it. When they see that he's black, it makes for great movie. Great cast, good songs, and in Technicolor. I also like "In the Heat of the Night." Pretty much if it has Sidney Poitier in it, I'm down.

Touch of Evil, The Hustler, On the Water Front, In The Heat of the Night, The Longest Day, and Out of the Past are a few classics that I would recommend for someone just getting into older movies.

Doesn't meet the intent of this thread, but I love this movie...I don't care what anyone says. It is a classic in my book. It will be weird in 20 years when they remake it...again.

Freaks (1932)
Le Sange d'Un Poete (1932)
Haxan: Witchcraft Through the Ages (1922)

Calling something shit is always an opinion, unless it's literally shit.
