Oktoberfest Thread-Willkommen

I know October is Halloween month. And I do love Halloween. But I also love Oktoberfests. In this thread we discuss Oktoberfests. Best beer, festivals, foods, music. ETC. Anyone going to the real deal or have been in the past? Anyone doing anything cool to celebrate?
I am having an Oktoberfest Party at my house to combat all the Halloween ones. Got a few mini Kegs--Warsteiner, Hoffbrau, Spaten...and some Sam Adams Oktober and Pumpkins for the chicks. Gonna do Pretzels, Schnitzel, Brats, and Sliders.
Last weekend I won a Stein holding contest. 1 litre stein filled with Hoffbrau. I was shocked I won, but since I have been training my whole life, I was proud. My brother was 3rd.

Did you know that it actually ended today?

Fortunately I live in close proximity to German beer and food so I don't have to wait for a local Oktoberfest to partake.

I went to Bevmo to get some more Shipyard Smashed Pumpkin Ales but they were out so I got the Elysian variety pack instead, I really loved one of them and another tasted like cigarette tobacco, cant remember which is which though

I really like the Night Owl and I think I liked the punkuccino, although I could easily see why the mix of flavors could make it unpalatable.

one time we got lost going off trail at Bear Mountain. it was getting dark & we were getting worried until we heard sounds of faint music. we followed it & we toughed on through the thick brush which opened up to a giant ass parking lot/space with an Oktoberfest festival going on. beer, lederhosen, accordions. the works. they had all sorts of xxx-wursts, it was fucking incredible. we were all a bunch of disheveled city rugrats beaten down from the tough hike, but they welcomed us all the same.

Sounds like fun... the main Oktoberfest in Munich is kind of crap but I'm always down for a nice beer hall and good quality German food :)

the main celebration is like a US state fair with large beer halls. The best place is in the old city center the Hofbrauhaus.

Food is solid. I liked the roast pork on a bun. A lot of places don’t take credit card.
If you’re into beer I guess it’s worth checking out. I would never recommend a trip to Munich just for Oktoberfest. In my opinion fall fest in Sapporo was better. Japanese fried chicken at Fallfest is better than anything at Oktoberfest in Munich IMHO.

It was at the end of a month long holiday in Europe, my companion wanted to stay in Paris but eventually rolled her eyes and said yes. I don't regret going to Munich for a couple of days as we had fun, Oktoberfest was just super overrated.

Living nightmare. It's melting pot of mostly idiotic tourists and the worst people germany has to offer. Food there is utter crap, too.

It’s still cleaner and better behaved than most US state fairs. Most people are locals. I was there on the Italian weekend” and all of the S-bahn trains were filled with locals heading to Goetzplaza.

I agree that it is super overrated. Dachau and Innsbruck are the top things to do when you visit Munich IMHO.

I loved the city center. The town hall was pretty sweet as I love gothic architecture.

Much of it we were at this awesome hotel getting massages and stuff, relaxing after a long month. We got a suite here: https://www.roccofortehotels.com/hotels-and-resorts/the-charles-hotel/

Stupidly expensive from memory but totally worth it. I'd totally recommend it to anyone.

Are you trolling? Dachau and Innsbruck? What the fuck.

I think visiting Dachau is something everyone should do. I learned a lot about concentration camps and I was born in a f country where Germans built/ran concentration camps. There was a lot I didn't know.

Innsbruck is a fantastic place and only 1.5hrs by train. I go to Munich for work and I will definitely hit up Innsbruck for a day again. The Hungerberg hike is great, even in winter.
