I know October is Halloween month. And I do love Halloween. But I also love Oktoberfests. In this thread we discuss Oktoberfests. Best beer, festivals, foods, music. ETC. Anyone going to the real deal or have been in the past? Anyone doing anything cool to celebrate?
I am having an Oktoberfest Party at my house to combat all the Halloween ones. Got a few mini Kegs--Warsteiner, Hoffbrau, Spaten...and some Sam Adams Oktober and Pumpkins for the chicks. Gonna do Pretzels, Schnitzel, Brats, and Sliders.
Last weekend I won a Stein holding contest. 1 litre stein filled with Hoffbrau. I was shocked I won, but since I have been training my whole life, I was proud. My brother was 3rd.

Sounds like fun... the main Oktoberfest in Munich is kind of crap but I'm always down for a nice beer hall and good quality German food :)

Got plans to go to the local Oktoberfest celebration here in my town in two weeks, never been before so I dont know how big of a deal it is but ole Pete loves a festival, no doubt about it

Plus they have a costume dog parade and there is no way Im missing that!

Too crowded?

Too crowded, too commercial, idiots passed out in their own vomit by 15:00. A bunch of carnival rides and shit.

Beer halls on site are terrible, packed in like sardines and deafeningly loud.

Spent a couple of days there to go to Oktoberfest but spent about an hour or so at the site and then went off to a local beer hall/restaurant which was nearly empty. So much better.

Marzens are my favorite style of beer.

Founders' Oktoberfest is my go-to this year:

Today is the last day of Oktoberfest, and my birthday. We're hitting the town Friday night though, bar-hopping up and down and getting appetizers on a little boutique street in Bristol, PA.

What do you got against carnival rides?

Happy birthday, soon to be drunk sherbro.

Living nightmare. It's melting pot of mostly idiotic tourists and the worst people germany has to offer. Food there is utter crap, too.

In Munich, hit local Beer places/ restaurants in the part of town called Schwabing. It's very very nice and famous for great nightlife and bars.

We didn't travel over from Paris for carnival rides. Not my bag at all but hey, if that's your thing.

/shrugs

But you traveled over from Paris to go to a festival and carnival rides are pretty standard at a festival, Im not saying you got to hop on the ferris wheel(although you should), its just curious to me that they bothered you by being there

It's a BEER festival, not a local county fair. Just seemed out of place and a terrible idea when most people were drinking a bunch of booze.

Doesn't matter, we found much better places in Munich anyway.

I have heard the tourists have changed the feel. Munich is a bucket list for me. It's funny but I get all the best in NYC without having to travel--Oktoberfest, Carnival, Chinese NY, Cinco De Mayo etc. But I do love to travel.
