Okay, So what is the point of a back up fighter?

They're just a prop, like a actor in the background that has no lines, says nothing and just sits at the table pretending to talk to some other actor who's gonna do the same thing..... nothing.

I'm guessing the backup is so that if the fight fell apart on the day of the event with a freak injury, failed weight, etc they have someone on weight ready to go.
But that just happened 2 ppvs in a row and they didn’t use the backup

backups on their backups, basically the more options the better. official 'backup' is probably more like a last resort, like at least there'll be a fight of some sort, but before that they're going to look around for a bigger seller first.
Yeah, that sounds right.

A backup fighter is not a backup plan

Maybe he was been replacement for Islam only

I just don't get it.

They have a back up for the fight last weekend, they don't use him. They have a back up for the up coming ppv and they dont use him against the original opponent. We know both stipe and jones weren't going to either Aspinall or Pavlovich, So why have an official back up if the back up isn't going to replace the initial fight?

UFC after the WWE merger: everything's made up and the rules don't matter.

none of this shit makes sense anymore. So Aspinall vs Pavlovich, short notice title dream fight, and then what? Jones vs Stipe for the super REAL HW belt next year? and then a real HW title showdown between the winners of both late 2024 / 2025? what in the flying fookery is going on

I really like the way you call out stupid things.

that’s exactly what it is.

“backup” doesn’t mean “last in line.” if the promotion has time to put together a preferred matchup, they’ll do that instead.

I'm glad they do as long as they pay the back ups for training. With injuries and usada fucking up cards, it's a good strategy to fix callouts.

Not on the day of the event it didn't. In this case the backup is being used but Stipe doesn't want to fight the backup so Aspinall comes in too.
But jones wasn’t going to fight the back up either so what’s the point??

If the shitshow last week didn't make it clear that it is an useless position then there is no hope for these fighters.

Stipe deserves the option to wait for Jones to recover.

Islam would have taken whoever they put in front of him, pretty sure Stipe didnt, no point in taking a fight against a new guy that will KTFO him without the glory if he wins.

Having said that, i believe those backups are for last minute replacements.

Do they get paid anything not to fight? If they do then sure.
Yeah. They get paid, usually show money for showing up and making weight.

I assume they get much more if they are actually called upon to fight.

the “backup fighter” is like the friday night booty call girlfriend. you call ‘em up if your more important date falls through at the last minute. but if your hot date cancels on wednesday, do you take your friend with benefits out to a romantic dinner? no, of course not. you call up the other hot girl you wanna bang first. booty call girlfriend is just a backup plan. you guys know what i’m saying, right? of course you do.

anyway, they should call the “backup fighter” something else to avoid confusion, because apparently even fighters are confused. they should call it “emergency last minute replacement fighter,” or “all else failed fighter,” or “friday night 3am tinder hookup fighter.” then they’ll understand their true place in line.
