Ok, seriously: none of you actually think DDP's technique is poor... right?

His technique is absolutely terrible, and being a "KB champ" is meaningless. There's an endless number of so-called KB champs with absurd + unverifiable records who get rocked by generic mma wrestleboxers.

You know better.
I'm sure he could have immaculate technique.
At THAT point, which I'm far away because my technique is actually terrible, your trainer says: "just go with the flow, do what feels natural to you".

And, if that works, they keep on building from there.
So there's layers and layers of technique, on top of the foundation of canonical technique, in his terrible technique.

DDP is just playing 5D chess by introducing techniques that look bad now but will actually be taught worldwide in 5 years. He's really a time traveler who created a self-fulfilling temporal loop by being the one who introduced the techniques and simultaneously going forward in time to steal them to get credit for it.

In striking? yes. It's quite awful. Picture a dude with an average chin and average KO power fighting like him: do you think said fighter wouldn't be getting brutally knocked out in half of his fights?

I mean... yes? Or, at least, probably?
He has outstruck or landed the cleaner ones in the exchanges with strikers as defensively sound as Sean or a counterpuncher like Izzy.
IMHO.

It's not like he gets away with it by having one punch KO power (he doesn't) or a granite chin (I don't know if he happens to have it).

Yet he’s piecing up your top MW strikers like Izzy, Strickland and Whittaker. How do you explain that?

He relies a lot on strength, durability, and conditioning as well. His technique alone isn’t winning fights like an Izzy or mm or gsp, etc.
A lot of his success does come from his attributes, which is not necessarily a bad thing.

But yeah he has a very awkward style. He has read the textbook and decided it’s not for him

He makes it work with cardio, chin, speed and power. And relentless aggression. Turns it into a dog fight and when that happens the big dog tends to win. Dricus is betting that he's the big dog and the other guy isn't.

DDP said in a interview with Ariel just the other day that he and his coach developed his style over time. They are aware of the oddities and what it might look like, but Dricus is convinced it is best for him. Hard to argue.

Ddp has a graceful style meant for wmma and bar fights lol

Effectively 'tarded

DDP is a master of nothing. He's durable af. Idc if he wins or loses but it seems he can go 5 rounds and that could be an issue for chimaev if his initial onslaught fails

Kickboxing requires the least amount of skill of any of the striking sports. The upper echelon is different but there are a ton of unathletic bums who are pro kickboxers.

Remove the steroids and hes a 155er. Really speaks to how terrible the division is though tbh.

I watched a YouTube video of a world class kickboxer saying he does everything wrong in a technical sense but it works for him.

I also recall a comment ā€œon paper DDP loses to Khamzat, but too bad DDP can’t readā€ lol
