Xbox Official Xbox thread

And how much do you think Windows gets per activated Windows license? They don't rake in money from Windows gaming, and PC Game Pass revenue is way behind what something like a Valve takes in.

That was partly my point. Microsoft is diversified enough as a software company to warrant a shift in one of their divisions.

Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft have been slap fighting over the same equal share of the userbase pie for nearly thirty years. To the point that all of them became the smallest players in the industry last decade.

Current Windows 11 Pro i purchased. Last Windows purchase was my parents family Pc back in the late 90's. Windows 2000, XP, XP 64bit, 7 and 10 i got for free since i indirectly knew Microsoft developers during those times. So hopefully my personal Windows purchase history isnt the average customers Windows purchase history for Microsofts sake, lol.

Microsoft testing the waters to gauge interest in VR? Kind of a weird concept here. Looks like no actual VR Xbox games at the moment, just "flat" games on a virtual screen.

I'm not touching anything Facebook/Meta connected if I don't have to.
I know Superhot VR got some hype, but frankly, at least 3 separate artificially created hype bubbles and some 30 years later, it still looks on paper like the only thing ever meaningfully produced in VR/3D was Half-Life Alyx, and even that was a bittersweet victory because all it served to remind everyone was that it just wasn't Half-Life 3.

No Half-Life 3, No Let 4-Dead 3?

That's dang near criminal that those trilogies will go unfinished.

I saw a rumor that the new Xbox will provide access to Steam and Epic stores. Is this true? If so, man, that is awesome. So many cool games on Steam that are PC locked.

No way to know how true that is right now...but it is likely a target as they seem to be starting to make "Xbox" software related. As per the this is an Xbox ad.

It's currently in testing on the Xbox PC app, nothing on Epic but Steam and Battle.net support is in there

Sony are multi-billion dollar investors in Epic Games. Then you have Tencent who own 40% of Epic Games. All this makes it unlikely that Epic Games will allow such integration. *Main games of Riot Games arent on Steam but are on Epic Games Store.

If the rumors are true this brings up some curious points. How will console gamers respond to the next generation of Playstation/XBox. For Steam integration increases XBox games library by a factor of x10. An does that mean XBox OS is going full on slimmed down version of Windows for Steam/Pc support? Which will hopefully lead into what Pc gamers have been begging for since the 2000's. Optimized Windows OS variant tailored specifically for Pc gaming.

That's what they are trying to do with the version of Windows they are shipping with the Xbox branded ROG Ally's coming later in the year

Yeah, partnership starts to make sense now. Read last week that the XBox team(not the Windows team) was credited for optimizing that handhelds Windows OS.

Its been floating around for a week that another round of cuts across the Xbox studios were coming but they have just started:

10% (200 jobs) of King's Barcelona Studio (Candy Crush) https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...oft-begins-deep-job-cuts-across-xbox-division

And cuts at Zenimax's London and Maryland Offices in the Marketing Divison https://www.windowscentral.com/gaming/xbox/microsoft-xbox-layoffs-july-2025

More to come later in the day by the looks of it too

Looks like Everwild from Rare has been cancelled and some layoffs at Rare https://www.videogameschronicle.com...-has-been-cancelled-as-xbox-layoffs-hit-rare/

Raven and Sledgehammer also hit plus 50% at Turn10

The Initiative is getting closed down and Perfect Dark is cancelled

This is getting ridiculous

Cant wait till all these dev jobs are replaced by AI.

After today's headlines it makes me wonder if there is going to be a new XBox in a few years or if Microsoft's gaming division is just going the way of Sega.

Imagine Microsoft as a giant group of 3rd party developers for PS5&6, PC, phone apps, and Switch2.

But more realistically the new XBox will close the distance between PC & Consoles as a hybrid.

Anybody remember this?
