Xbox Official Xbox thread

Games Games Games.
That’s what’s going to win this generation and Xbox is starting considerably behind the curve.
It's not like Sony showed something incredible. The most anticipated gamed announced for the PS5 is Demon Souls Remake that everyone forgot at this point.

Well, let's see.

I don't care about Halo, they can do whatever with that IP. I'm really happy they announced Forza and Fable, plus, another RPG from Obsidian. I'm also pretty pumped for Grounded. It's looking good to me.

Historically the price point has been the most important single aspect to winning the console launch war.

It’s important but I dunno if it’ll matter as much this gen, to a degree.
Price matters more as long as the games are the same, more or less.

One thing you’re discounting is that Playstation also has a massive head start due to its huge sales lead in the current generation (PS4).
If even a sizeable minority of those ~110 million current ps4 owners stick with the same brand’s upgrade, Microsoft would’ve already lost the battle in a 2-3 years tops.
Most casuals just stick with the same ol same ol. In marketing, especially for consumer electronics, getting a foothold inside a household is the biggest sales lead you can get and the hardest to overcome.
And worldwide (outside N.A and I dunno about Europe but Africa and Asia) Playstation is synonymous with gaming.

Things would’ve been better for MS if the gap in this generation hadn’t been so massive.

EDIT : also since I have you here, what do you think about both companies, especially Microsoft, using console emulators to showcase games this late in release cycle ?
Seems to me there’s going to be hardware issues (here’s looking at you Microsoft) because it seems like it’s being rushed.
I’m pushing my console upgrade clear into mid next year at the earliest.

Pretty sure Microsoft only counts America when they decide they are winning. The only place the 360 sold better was North america, and that was Sony's worst machine.

DS remake >>>>>>> anything MS showed.
And that’s not counting Ratchet n Clank and the forest game they showed. Really good looking games.

And Sony didn’t tease a game release like it’s the second coming of Jesus, for months, only to fall flat on its face when actually shown.

N.A while the biggest single country for both companies is only 30% of the sales for Sony (110 million) and about 50% for Microsoft.

Sales matter wherever they sell. It’s about the numbers. And these non N.A countries aren’t getting it at a discount.
Quite the opposite actually.

Of course, Microsoft just can’t overcome Sony internationally and domestically they threw on the towel when they stopped releasing sales figures. Meanwhile the PS4 is still showing strong sales.
That’s nuts.

Your statement is only true where Microsoft has to look for any win wherever they can manufacture one.
What does it matter if in one region, 10 years ago, you sold marginally better ? Does it help your bottom line better than the one who sold more units and residuals globally ?

Thing is Sony doesn't have to show something incredible, they're the top dog. Microsoft though..

That's like, your opinion, man.

In my opinion it's just lazy.

At least the Halo/Gears/Forza trinity is gonna be a thing of the past.

Was Gears 5 a dud? It's not even in the top 20 most played Game Pass games.

I hope they dont bother with another one until they change the game, the formula has been incredibly dull for years now.

Of course they do. They lost the top spot before, you only need one mistake.

Maybe but I just don't see it happening for MS. Not this gen at least. I like the things they are doing though and they are doing the right things but this is going to take time. They not only hurt themselves during the reveal for the X1. This whole gen for them hasn't been good and it's going to take time to turn that around. I couldn't believe how quickly the Nintendo Switch blew past the X1 but I guess it makes sense cause Nintendo basically combined their handheld and console fans into one fan base.

Either way I think MS can turn things around but I don't think it'll be next gen and I think it's going to take a while to build up their brand again. Give the new studios time to really push out more and more titles.

It seems like Game Pass has two trains of thought. One being a place to put older games, or games from smaller studios to stay relevant, and games out up there for a couple of months as a teaser, so play a bit and buy it when it goes.

My thought process for subscribing to game pass was that I didn’t have to buy games for it. That was one of the main reason why I bought an XBox. After that, I sold the XBox.

I just started buying games in PS4 and Switch again. I take my time with games so it takes me at least several months to finish it.

I agree. God knows what Phill is allowed to do with the huge pockets Microsoft has.

I'm probably alone with this opinion but I HATE GAMEPASS.

I get that its great on Xbox, but it absolutely sucks on PC. Windows 10 Store is the worst piece of shit software ever created by man, and you also get a lot less games than on Xbox.

Doesnt matter though since its just an option and you can ignore it and buy the game, right? Well, not really when Microsoft puts a game like Gears Tactics that should be $30-$40 on Steam for freaking $70 because they want your Gamepass subscription so badly...

Event was pretty boring as expected. Weird how everyone though the next generation would start off with some amazing lineup of games. Has it ever?

Not sure if Gamerpass was the cause of it or the Xbox but games kept freezing.

What’s the general thought as to how Microsoft “won” the 360/PS3 generation? Was it primarily just because they had about a year head start on Sony?

Agreed

I couldn't play gears 4 for more than an hour
